enjoyable read, I look forward to Book
Honestly, Derek surpasses himself with the sequel. It's a much smoother read than the first, the action is upped, the plot thickens, with even more surprises and unpredictable twists. I was captivated from page one where we follow Karl in captivity, by more than one party, and we meet the people trying to help him - sometimes for his sake and sometimes for their own personal gain. We're never really sure, and nothing is simple and we're not told everything from the beginning. Just like the mythology of the guardians and how their essence pass on to grandchildren of their own gender is only explained and expanded on slowly throughout the story. It's a very interesting idea and a main drive in the dilemmas the characters face. That, and the great evil that is trying to rise, and unfortunately for Karl, he's somehow involved in it all...
Definitely recommended for anyone who wants a thrilling and unpredictable fantasy story.
This being a genre I like to live in, the cast seem familiar and easy to identify with but unexpected twists are around the corner, its never a good idea to pigeon hole a Kettlety character.
A real page turner that makes you slow down in case you miss something.
Can't wait for number three.
