HASH(0x90d57294) out of 5 stars Direct ticket to paradise 19 Jun. 2011
By Simon - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
I have a problem. A serious problem.
From the moment i started to listen seriously to the music before Bach,
i find more and more composers that makes me to listen less and less to Herr Bach!
This CD is by the fantastic L'Arpeggiata - a group full of imagination and daring. They perform here a non usual recital of music by Kapsberger (1580-1651)
[It's not usual since Kapsberger is known usually by his lute music.]
And once again i'm surrounded by so gentle and intricate beauty.

Every thing here is superb - the music, the instrumentalists, the singers (especially Pino de Vittorio), the recording and the package.
As the other reviewer said before, you just owe to yourself to listen to this CD - it's a direct ticket to paradise!
HASH(0x90d57a74) out of 5 stars Extraordinarily calming music. 8 Nov. 2015

Kapsberger is best known for his solo lute music. This is ensemble music (various combinations of lute, theorbeau, one and two cornets, viol, tenor, soprano). Almost all slow, minor key -- contemplative. Very similar to Monteverdi's secular accompanied madrigals in style. Good for a Sunday afternoon writing day.

HASH(0x90d5906c) out of 5 stars One of the greatest ever!!! 29 April 2008
By Steve Sturgill - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
This is one of the greatest renaissance/early baroque albums ever recorded on planet earth. Edin Karamazov plays lute on this album. He is the incredible lutist or lutenist that recorded Songs from the Labyrinth with Sting! He is joined by world class musicians who make Giro's music breath and sound I am sure quite "authentic" and very relevant. The music is beautiful and stately at times, at others darker, somber or meditative always lyrical and emotive. Bravo! Buy it now! Your ears will thank you for it!!
