In a similar vein to both the Harry Potter books and Rick Riordan's own Percy Jackson novels, the Kane Chronicles follow the stories of young teens coping with the ups and downs of young life and having magical powers. Based in a world of Egyptian rather than Greek mythology, the stories consist of an ongoing battle with the forces of good and evil and trying to save the world. It may sound formulaic and it probably is but its still an enjoyable, fun read and would appeal to any fans of the more famous previously named series.

Firstly, this a great price for these 3 books, well worth the money.

I'd been a fan of the Percy Jackson books for quite a while before reading The Kane Chronicles, as somehow they didn't appeal quite so much. However, within a couple of chapters I was wondering what on earth I'd been thinking. Different Gods, different world... but still Rick Riordan's fantastic imagination and skilful way with words which makes you feel like you're right there with the characters.

The books follow the adventures of Carter Kane and his sister as they try to save the world (several times over). The books are presented as a transcript of a cassette tape which supposedly Mr Riordan was sent in the hopes that he would get it published to get the word out about what's going on. In a similar way to the Heroes of Olympus series, the narrator changes from Carter to his sister, (sometimes from chapter to chapter), although in this book (as opposed to Heroes of Olympus) it's purely in the first person, no matter who is narrating. I found this allowed an added depth into the thought processes of the characters as they struggle with what are quite often difficult concepts. Some people have commented that this series is a bit more "grown up" than the Percy Jackson books. I'd agree to a point, but they are still very much books for young adults.

There is a "look inside" feature on this book, and if you're at all hesitant about buying all 3 in one go, then read the sample. I promise it'll leave you wanting to know what happens next.

Differs from Rick Riordan's other books as this series explores Egyptian mythology instead of Greek. However, the character's are just as quirky and the books just as amusing. An entertaining read which effortlessly makes you laugh.

I love this series, not as much as his other series, The Percy Jackson books but still really enjoyed the differences between the Egyptian gods and greek gods as well as the fact that there are no Demi-gods in this series, they can merge with/host the Egyptian gods or rather one god that chooses them and they have magic as they're descended from Egyptian pharaohs and priests but the Egyptian gods don't father children with mortals like the greek gods do!

I am a great lover of Rick Riordan books. All the ones I've read so far - all the Percy Jackson ones - have been easy reading, fun, with a good story line. This set is following in the same path :-) I just don't want to put it down. Any age can enjoy these books - I'm over 60! You are learning mythology without trying too.

I can't wait to read these! I'm currently reading Son of Neptune and will then read Mark of Athena. I bought The Kane Chronicles (and the survival guide) to (semi)tide me over until House of Hades is released but the rate I get through Rick Riordans books, I don't think they will last until October.. I wish there were more!!

---

Okay I've read them, great books. I will say I prefer the PJ series but I do like the story line/s and also the additional book you can buy (the survival guide) which follows on characters etc.

The mythology interests me as does the imagination that goes into the books.

Rick Riordan is one of my favourite authors and I look forward to whatever else he writes!
