Another experiment for me, in the endless choice of vampire books that are out there. I picked this at random and read it, but it was a struggle as it committed the ultimate sin for me, I got bored.

The sex was meaty and plentiful, the characters colourful, but the premise, that Kade had 'claimed' Sydney and that she could not resist his powerful, dark allure, made all my feminist hackles rise. I understand there is a massive market for this kind of thing and it is very popular, but as vampire novels go, I have read better ones. The vampire/erotica genre should be sexy and gory with strong women as well as men, and this novel did not tick any of those boxes for me. I'm sure I'm in the minority and as this book was a freebie, I feel somewhat bad that I didn't enjoy it, but I would be totally lying if I said I did.

The story was ok in parts and other parts felt like it was narrative, there was lots of sex scenes that left me feeling bored. this was readable but there was no excitement in it but it was a good story, i cant make my mind up whether to give it 3* or 2* so i went with 3* as it was a free read.

Forced dialogue is the bane of my life!!!
Almost EVERY line in dialogue is either started or ended with the other person's name. NOBODY speaks like that. The rest of the dialogue especially the arguments between the two main characters had a feeling of immaturity.

The FL is supposed to be a strong willed, badass cop. But she comes across as flighty and childish rather than assertive and strong. She is sometimes just down right stupid.

The ML who is supposed to be the Vampire leader of his area often did not hear or sense others enter a room or area before the FL did. It just did not make sense.
The secondary characters were over familiar with their leader and there was no balance between the respect you would expect everybody to show a badass Vampire Leader and a very familiar, casual display of friendship.

I really had to force myself to keep on reading this book from about 15% into it.
The storyline is by far not original. While reading the book several other books just like this one popped to mind.

The story is good. This formula has been tried and tested and it works. You can't go wrong with it. But the writing style lets this one down.

I will definitely not be reading any other books in this series.

Very similar to Awakened, Brenda K Davies and The Dark Series by Christine Feehan. With this book I found the main female character to be very irritating at times but I often find this when reading these types of books, the weak or damaged damsel who has never been truly in love blah blah blah! The girl Sydney is suppose to be a strong career woman but I found her from the moment she's introduced to be all over the place, PMT springs to mind and while reading for a split second I thought we were going to have another Twilight on our hands you know vampire and werewolf fight over the poor indecisive human girl.

I sound as if I didn't like this book but actually I did - overall an enjoyable page turner and yes even though I had a little moan I have given this book four stars and I am looking forward to downloading the next instalment.

The first book of the series about this kick-ass sexy detective Sydney Willows, who assigned to work with a senseless murder in Philly. The deaths of this young woman who had been tortured and made them part of a crazy dark magic ritual. And to find out more about these deaths the police needed someone from the supernatural world so Sydney was forced to work with the sexy, vampire alpha, Kade Isaacson. While working, they find themselves drawn to each other and the sexual intentions were crazy.
The investigation leads them back to Kade's territory in New Orleans. Sydney soon becomes the killer's target and Kade will do everything to protect the dogged detective.

While browsing Amazon for a free ebook I stumbled to this series and because I'm a sucker for a vampire I downloaded it on my kindle. The first 5 pages were mostly about these two who needed to get laid. It was crazy reading this and I am glad I continued reading it because, despite their sexual frustrations and crazy attractions from each other, the story was good. Not the best vampire story I read but I was hooked. It was just a bit annoying when Sydney is being too stubborn and Kade is just being a real patient vampire because he's captivated by her. The fighting scenes were not bad, I like it that they included a magic which made it more intense. I did not like the villain at all. The author I think did not put that much information on why this crazy vampire wanted the power. Yeah, she's addicted to Kade but the story about them is not enough to be honest. The villain came out in the story angry to Sydney and wanted Kade on her own when the story is almost finished which is very disappointing.

In the first book of this series we meet head vamp Kade Issacson who travels to Philadelphia as a member of P-CAP (paranormal city alternative police), when young women are being tortured and drained of blood. What the media are dubbing the Death Doll murders. Enter..detective Sydney Willows. A human kick ass, strong, beautiful, blonde, loner, female. There's an instant attraction and fuzzy feeling between the two which ignites during the second half of the book into some heated sex scenes. A well put together storyline, with other vamps, witches, mages and werewolves in the mix, good secondary characters with potential for their own stories in future books where they find ' the one'. Entertaining, albeit, a bit cliche and mushy at times.
