- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 June 2011Verified PurchaseAs other reviewers have pointed out, there are no instructions. It's a bit weird, but if you visit the Kabrus website then you'll get a good indication of how it works. Installation is quite simple, just slide it on to the front disc and find a hole in the disc that's big enough to push the lock's pin through. Push the locking button down and it will beep once to indicate that it is locked (if it doesn't beep, change the batteries). It seems you have about 30 seconds before it's fully armed, so if you want to test it by jiggling the lock, just wait a bit before you try that.
To unlock it, just insert the key and turn.
The lock is really solid and heavy, and appears very waterproof. I can't fault it for its construction and security. The gradiated alarm system is also a great idea and works really well.
The sale price (£24.99) is pretty amazing for what you get, the only other disc lock w/alarm I saw was the Oxford Boss at well more than twice the price. Even at the RRP, this is still a much better lock than the Oxford!
One thing you will definitely need is a 3rd-party disc lock reminder, which you can typically get for 2 pounds or less.
Oh yeah, Kabrus even give you a complete set of spare batteries! Absolute bargain!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 April 2011Verified PurchaseA good strong small handy lock and the alarm works very well.
Already comes pre-installed with tiny batteries and they even give some additional new ones and a handy bag for storing the lock, which fits nice onto the bike disk brakes and into my underseat space for storage.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 21 March 2016Verified PurchaseIt did the job for about 3 months. After that just fell apart one day, barrel completely disintegrated just by unlocking.
Advertised as 140db, the box it arrived in only claims it to be 110db which is probably more accurate as you can hardly hear it when you're indoors and your bike is outside. Also not very sensitive at all, I really tried shaking the bike about... alarm didn't kick in. You could probably pick up the bike and carry it away without so much as a squeal.
Product also claims to be 5 years warranty. I tried to reach out to the manufacturer for a replacement several times, no luck. I complained to Amazon as well, not interested.
It is safe to say I will not be buying this product again.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 26 September 2017Verified PurchaseThe disk padlock itself is pretty sturdy, but the alarm isn't very loud and I'm not sure if I'd hear it go off around the back of the house. I wasn't too happy when it arrived as the product title and description states it is 140db which was my only reason for purchasing this particular item due to it being louder than other offerings. This IS NOT TRUE, as you can clearly see from the product image - it is rated at 110db like the other products. I noted this on my supplier feedback when it arrived but I see they haven't changed their title or description.
I've had it fitted under a bike cover for two months (not fully exposed to rain) and have had to oil it a couple of times already as the lock was getting stiff to turn. I also had to change the batteries last week as it was making poor little chirping sounds which I assumed was due to low batteries. While changing the batteries I also squirted some dry chain lube around the inside as there is no internal seal to stop water from getting into the electronics and the claim that they are weather proofed is just WRONG. I don't mind changing the batteries at the moment as two sets of replacement ones were also supplied with the lock, but it does suggest that it may eat through batteries regularly - I'll have to wait for another couple of months to see.
As this isn't a recognised name in motorcycle security it was also difficult to indicate on my insurance that I had an alarmed disc lock fitted, so a better known brand may may be worth the extra dosh.
The alarm sensitivity itself is also a bit weird, and due to the other inaccuracies in the product description I'm doubting the claim of it having 3 auto-setting sensitivity levels (there's no way of confirming this claim). I can actually wiggle the handlebars quite a bit before the alarm chirps it's warning beeps that it recognises something happening.
I can't say whether this is good or bad as I haven't had another alarmed disc lock to compare it too, but my confidence in the alarm part of it is not great.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 10 September 2011Verified PurchaseI thought i'd leave it a few weeks before i reviewed it as a read a couple of reviews which were good but complained about the amount of time the batterys lasted. I've had this product for about a month now and the batterys have lasted so far. I use it through the day while at work, and i keep it on my bike all night every night, so it's used a lot.
It's really reliable and it's not gone off (as far as i'm aware) for no reason.
It goes off at the slightest touch. But wind doesn't bother it.
Do buy a reminder though (forget me not) as it doesn't go off if you sit on the bike, as it states. And break disks are easilly bent and impossible to straighten. I've rode off with one on before despite thinking i never would and it cost me almost a hundred quid for a new break disk. For the sakes of a couple of quid you should get one.
The disk lock is easy to use, is pretty strong looking and feels pretty sollid, it arrived in good time and comes with extra batterys.
I'm sure it's completely water proof but it hasn't had a good test yet.
Really happy with it. Just remember to buy a reminder.
