Using a whetstone is the best way to sharpen a knife, I have been wanting to get one for a very long while. This has helped me save 4 knives, which otherwise would have been disposed off. Make sure to watch a few YouTube tutorials on how to use whetstone and along with this product you're good to go. Don't need to buy new knives regularly, just keep sharpening old ones and give them a new life. I have it permanently sitting on the kitchen counter, it looks good and does the job perfectly well.

I have absolutely no issue with this as a sharpening stone, it is as expected.

Where I take issue is with the seller who offered to send me another one free of charge if I left a positive review on here. I mean that message was literally packaged with the item. Leave a five star review on Amazon, get another one free of charge.. Clearly they think this is a clever ploy to extract positive reviews but it just makes me feel like I've been charged 50% too much.

This type of review manipulation should be banned, I mean it calls in to question every single positive review left for this item.

Anyway here you go.. Here's your positive review.. I'd rather pay twice as much and feel like I got my moneys worth than deal with you again.

Worth it for the stone

It is my conclusion that the only way to properly sharpen a knife is to use a stone and not any of the fancy gadgets on sale today. This stone does the job beautifully. The two grit grades are all I would require and the 1000 gives a staggeringly sharp finish. The stone comes with a rubber foot that fits the stone well and holds it steady without slipping whilst sharpening.
This purchase comes with an angle guide. For me, it is a waste of time and is already in the bin. Perhaps because I am used to using a stone I can hold the knife freehand and produce a good edge; but certainly the guide did not work for me and my shape and size of knives. That may be different for you. Don't let that point put you off buying the stone.

Before I purchased this whetstone, I was using a 1000/3000 grit stone. It took me AGES to get a sharp edge. I purchased this one because I learned that it's far more efficient to start on a sub-1000 grit stone for knives that have actually lost their edge and won't come back with several strokes of the sharpening steel.

So I bought this one and I'm so glad I did! The 400 grit actually does a better and faster job of getting the initial edge set. Finishing on the other side, 1000 grit, then does a fine job of polishing.

This stone is awesome and even included an angle guide that's better than the one I currently use. The stone is well packaged and instructions are quite clear. Looking forward to getting a drawer full of knives nice and sharp!

Brilliant kit.
I had been frustrated for a while that the 2 Japanese KIN knives I have had lost their super sharpness and foolishly tried to get the edge back on them using a diamond Steel, big mistake. I have an oil stone but it gets a bit messy and best kept for DIY and gardening tools.
The Kunqun 1000/6000 was the option I went for as it is recommended by KIN [theirs sells at £70, no extras](many celebrity Chefs use these knives, it was James Martin who led us to them at a BBC food show in Glasgow many moons ago). My purchase came with an angle guide and levelling stone, I tried the guide but found it much easier doing it by hand. It certainly pays to watch a few chefs showing how they do it on YouTube, all slightly different, but I found keeping the angle correct and only apply pressure dragging the blade back, not when pushing works great. Now cuts single hairs (much to my wife's dismay!) and slices paper with ease. Ninja sharp.
Excellent value for money and super sharp knives again. Sushi chef sharpness is such a pleasure.

I've been doing some DIY around the house, trimming door frames to fit some new doors and, when my chisel hit a nail and chipped, I turned to this whetstone to repair the damage. After some quick and easy sharpening, my chisel was as good as new. I then proceeded to use said chisel to create spaces for door hinges. I'm quite new to DIY which is probably my faux pas but my now razor sharp chisel slipped and went straight into my hand. The wound it created was deep enough to see the fat in my hand and I can honestly say I have never seen blood so dark so quickly. This is testament to how good this whetstone is. I've never sharpened a chisel before and look at how good a job it did. Thanks to this whetstone I can sleep easy at night knowing I have a clean scar rather than a messy one.

I just received the water stone and read the ( very basic ) instructions, soaked it for 30 min and tried it on a chefs knife. First observation is that the angle guide is useless for blades wider than 30mm and a back edge of 3mm. The recomended angle is a no go - 12 to 15 degree is the norm. Second impression is that the compoud stone is a bit on the soft side, needing flattening more often. Not a problem if you use a piece of plate glass and w/d 180-220 abrasive. Definitely not the to small dressing stone supplied!
The paper test is OK for normal kitchen use but the real test is the hair shaving one - not for the faint hearted!
Sounds fussy but for an admierer of Japanese tools, the use and propper maintainance of these sometimes very expensive cutting devices are paramount.
I have 3 Japanese water stones ranging from 600 to 8000# and a few high carbon steel knives/ chisels. A joy to use - if you can keep them razor sharp!
You can find the best sharpening video instructions on Youtube, go for the Japanese ones, only 2 or 3 slightly different techniques - passionate care and perfection!
Facit : The KUNQUN looks good, the holding device is OK and time will tell! All for the price of a 3rd compared to a Japanese stone.
