Part One has Number, Word and ‘Real Life’ Problems. There are 26 exercises in all and each exercise has three parts – A, B and C. The A questions are called ‘start up’ questions and are generally quite straightforward e.g. 135 + 20 = ? The B questions are ‘Into Gear” and are also quite simple, but are ‘word’, rather than number problems – for example, ‘make ten 5 times larger.’ Lastly, Section C are the ‘tough challenge’ questions and often include more than one step, such as, “Three chocolate bars cost £1.50. How many bars could be bought with £2.50?”
Part Two consists of 24 timed tests. These are quite small – there are four tests on each page and only ten questions in each test. However, they are useful if you do not have much time or just want to spend a few minutes honing your child’s mental maths skills. There is a useful record sheet at the back of the book to record scores and progress.
It's a "must have" if you want your child to improve or keep a good level without private tuitions.
Some questions are commansence- how many days in a year?! But overall the book has covered everything you would have learn through out year 4
