My nearest IKEA is absolutely miles away. Now as much as I love those meatballs I'm simply not going to drive for an hour to buy a garlic press!
This is easily the best I've seen. Hands up who has used a cheap one and then had no idea how to clean it (I used to poke a knife in there - blunted a lot of knives and lost a lot of blood!)
So it was either garlic powder or a new design
This one pulls apart completely - including the garlic holder - for easy cleaning. THIS is the press for me
So everyone agrees it's the best design around (don't know why everyone doesn't follow suit - patent maybe!)
Yes you can get it slightly cheaper in store
If you can't get to a store then this is your best bet
For the price and the style, it is perhaps the best garlic press on the market.
The style of the press makes popping in some garlic very easy to use. It has a removal base, which makes it a dream to wash.
I think the flaw with this is that you have to scrape the garlic from the bottom of the press because it doesn't all drop out, but that isn't a huge issue. The handle bar is made from stainless steel so it is suitable for the dishwasher, but I recommend hand washing just to ensure you remove all garlic and it reduces the risk of any potential damage from a dishwasher.
I have had more expensive garlic crushers that didn't work nearly as well. This is just a dream, as I hate having to peel garlic before giving it over to the mercies of the crusher. You can just put your fully clothed cloves in there and the crusher will happily do it's business and leave the skin behind to pick out. I've also done two to three cloves at a time when they've been small, and it worked fabulously.
My advice is to get it from IKEA if you can, but if you can't it's worth the extra couple of quid to obtain it from this seller.
I have a bad habit of over-zealous two-handed squishing which has broken handles/joints in the past.
And the fact that some of the mush escapes around the piston is a given with such a design.
But all in all, considering the cost, this is a very good buy!
