For me, this book is a game-changer: I'm a mid-divorce, empty-nester, white middle-class British woman with not a clue who she's meant to be - of herself, or in the world of work.
This book doesn't have all the answers, but it sure asks the right questions, and I've found it truly inspirational as I journey on through not knowing to somewhere, somewhen, when I can say that I know where my space is , who my people are, and what I can do for them.
Thanks, @Mark Schaefer.
Not only is it inspiring, largely due to the amazing case studies and detailed research included throughout, it is also insanely practical.
Mark takes a completely different approach in this book than that of your typical personal branding literature, in that this book is a step-by-step, data-backed approach to becoming known and developing your personal brand.
The effort and research that has gone into understanding what it is to be known, as well as the steps required to get there, is phenomenal.
This book starts at the very beginning and takes you through the processes required to go from being someone who is completely unknown, to someone who is known.
The book is chock full of helpful and practical exercises and strategies that will help you understand what you want to be and should be known for, how to find a space in which to be known, and the tools you'll need to get there.
I highly recommend this book to anyone starting out on their journey (or even those currently undertaking one) in the digital world who is wanting to become known as a well-respected thought leader and expert in any given niche.
Because it is FULL of step by step practical advice to help you become KNOWN. Every page inspires, motivates and explains everything in detail. Mark gives case studies to aid understanding....all with one objective in mind, to help you to cut through the noise and clutter out there, to become the authority in your field, to become the trusted adviser. To become KNOWN!
This is not fanciful writing, Mark has researched and interviewed those who have become KNOWN in their field of expertise. He has identified the the characteristics and behaviours......all you have to do is read, create your plan (Buy the Personal Branding Workbook that accompanies this book - do the work and you will have a plan) Then implement!!
Thank you Mark, this is one of the best books I have read in many, many years. Truly inspirational
It's a very practical guide to building a reputation and a following online. It's written in an easy, amusing style, with lots of examples of people who have become known - from Antonio Centeno of Real Men, Real Style to the YouTube star PewDiePie.
Mark Schaefer takes you through all the thinking you'll need to do about your interests and skills and how you might be able to use them to carve out a niche online.
It's very readable, but it took me a while because I kept stopping to consider its lessons. There's a lot there to think about.
