Product Description

KLOO, winner of the "ToyTalk Best Board and Card Game 2011", has turned learning a language into a game. Players make sentences and learn words in French to score points. The longer the sentence and the more words you learn, the faster you can power your cars around the special "Race to Paris" game board. Compete, race and overtake - KLOO makes learning a language fast, easy and a lot of fun. But there is no need to be a language expert - you can start playing KLOO as an absolute beginner - just be ready for how fast you pick up the language! Within a few games players can effortlessly learn hundreds of words and make tens of thousands of sentences. Using coloured cars to keep score, players speed through the great cities of France in a race to the capital. The game board shows genuine pictures of cultural sites and places of interest in each city. Extra game board rules spice up the fun. The four decks of KLOO cards contain useful French words for making sentences about "People", "Eating & Drinking", "Places" and "Everyday Objects". Once players know all the words in one deck, they move on to the next one. In a short time players learn to make thousands of French sentences. KLOO is suited for children and adult learners at pre-intermediate stages as well as being perfect for teachers seeking fun resources that the whole class loves to play and learn from. KLOO was designed by games experts, tested by teachers, manufactured in the UK and launched in the autumn of 2010. In March 2011 KLOO became an instant classic when it won the "Best Classic Toy" at the 2011 Dr Toy Awards in the USA. In the UK KLOO won the ToyTalk Best Board Game 2011. The game comes complete with Quick Start Rules, 4 decks with different words, a folded "Race to Paris" game board and coloured Racing Car pieces.

Worth every penny and every minute!
What I like best is the fact that everyone can be successful at something. I have been using it across the ability range and EVERYONE enjoyed it. My bottom set was able to build sentences following a strict colour code order while my top set reinvented the word order and went the creative way (many laughters were heard, disturbing my head of department who congratulated me on making French so fun). I like the fact that you can make the rules evolve as pupils are getting familiar with the word meaning and the sentence structures. Some even invented new rules! It is a useful time-saving educational resources for KS3-4 (although my Y12 have asked to play it) to promote quality learning and enhance pupils' language awareness (grammar + vocabulary).

My daughter (who's 8) and I have just played 'Kloo Race to Paris' for the first time and loved it.  She really enjoyed that she could score points with each card she played,  and also additional points by knowing the meaning.   It was great that as the word bank grew,  she was able to be more and more successful at this second element,  and could subsequently win points with cards that couldn't initially be translated. She liked it when I landed on a hotel square and couldn't  translate something, and therefore went backwards! When we'd finished playing she said 'can we use a different deck next time? '.  I'm really thrilled she enjoyed it and wants to play again.  We BOTH learnt something and I found the phonetic pronunciation really helpful - I always faltered a little with this at school!  I like the fact that although we have the game board we could easily just play with cards & like the suggested card games on your website videos.  l think this game format is a fantastic way of learning & so much more fun & interesting than workbooks or DVDs (too passive!). And one 'lap' of the gameboard didn't take too long; so easily retained my daughter's interest until she'd made it to Paris!

I'm looking forward to playing again; I can see why it's won so many awards!

While researching different French games in order to stimulate the primary school children I teach, I came across KLOO. After some research, I bought the four decks of cards and the game board "Race to Paris". The ten and eleven years old pupils I introduced it to absolutely love it. They enjoy the challenge this game gives them while boosting their confidence in making sentences in French. It does not matter if, at the beginning, they do not always make sense. This is one of the fun element. It is, also, a fun way of introducing grammar in a foreign language. Learning this the traditional way would be, in my opinion, boring and tedious.

The game can be played with or without the board but, I found that my pupils prefer playing with it. They love racing against each other, boys in particular.
For scoring, I use both board and pen and paper. Once the game is over, the children love being able to translate their left over cards to retain as many points as possible. They can be very competitive!

This is the best educative as well as fun card and board game I have bought so far.

Worth every penny! Playing this game with an adult of similar age and my two children aged 10 and 11 was fun and easy whilst very educational. All my GCSE french came flooding back and my two children have already picked up some really basic french. The addition of the board makes it more fun racing around French landmarks. It is also fab that the game can be played without the board by just using the four decks of cards. Great for long car journeys or taking away on holiday. Would recommend this to any family who would like to help their child learn a language.

We upgraded to the board game having enjoyed the card game. When it arrived yesterday, my 8 year old daughter wanted to play it straight away, before she'd got dressed or had breakfast! It certainly hasn't disappointed. We played two games back to back yesterday (after breakfast) and she wanted to play again today. My daughter hadn't done much French before she started playing Kloo and I'm really impressed by how much vocabulary she is learning already. For a beginner it's a great way to pick up sentence structure and learn vocab. For someone like me who hasn't spoken much French since leaving school 20 years ago, it's a great way to remember what I did once know.
Whilst having the board game version is far from essential, it's certainly added to our enjoyment and eliminates the need to find something to keep score on.

This game is a fun way to teach French language and sentence construction. The cards are colour-coded to designate nouns, verbs, adjectives etc. and arrows show which colour cards can go either side. This means that even young players produce grammatically correct sentences from the start. Each card contains a French word or words showing how to pronounce it/them. The bottom of the cards show a different word/words with a translation. My kids enjoyed searching the played cards to find a translation for the word/words they had in their hand. They learnt a surprising amount of French during their first game.
