KLOO, winner of the "ToyTalk Best Board and Card Game 2011", has turned learning a language into a game. Players make sentences and learn words in French to score points. The longer the sentence and the more words you learn, the faster you can power your cars around the special "Race to Paris" game board. Compete, race and overtake - KLOO makes learning a language fast, easy and a lot of fun. But there is no need to be a language expert - you can start playing KLOO as an absolute beginner - just be ready for how fast you pick up the language! Within a few games players can effortlessly learn hundreds of words and make tens of thousands of sentences. Using coloured cars to keep score, players speed through the great cities of France in a race to the capital. The game board shows genuine pictures of cultural sites and places of interest in each city. Extra game board rules spice up the fun. The four decks of KLOO cards contain useful French words for making sentences about "People", "Eating & Drinking", "Places" and "Everyday Objects". Once players know all the words in one deck, they move on to the next one. In a short time players learn to make thousands of French sentences. KLOO is suited for children and adult learners at pre-intermediate stages as well as being perfect for teachers seeking fun resources that the whole class loves to play and learn from. KLOO was designed by games experts, tested by teachers, manufactured in the UK and launched in the autumn of 2010. In March 2011 KLOO became an instant classic when it won the "Best Classic Toy" at the 2011 Dr Toy Awards in the USA. In the UK KLOO won the ToyTalk Best Board Game 2011. The game comes complete with Quick Start Rules, 4 decks with different words, a folded "Race to Paris" game board and coloured Racing Car pieces.

What I like best is the fact that everyone can be successful at something. I have been using it across the ability range and EVERYONE enjoyed it. My bottom set was able to build sentences following a strict colour code order while my top set reinvented the word order and went the creative way (many laughters were heard, disturbing my head of department who congratulated me on making French so fun). I like the fact that you can make the rules evolve as pupils are getting familiar with the word meaning and the sentence structures. Some even invented new rules! It is a useful time-saving educational resources for KS3-4 (although my Y12 have asked to play it) to promote quality learning and enhance pupils' language awareness (grammar + vocabulary).
I'm looking forward to playing again; I can see why it's won so many awards!
The game can be played with or without the board but, I found that my pupils prefer playing with it. They love racing against each other, boys in particular.
For scoring, I use both board and pen and paper. Once the game is over, the children love being able to translate their left over cards to retain as many points as possible. They can be very competitive!
This is the best educative as well as fun card and board game I have bought so far.
Whilst having the board game version is far from essential, it's certainly added to our enjoyment and eliminates the need to find something to keep score on.
