From the outset, the story is powerful, dark and gut wrenching. That does not ease up until the final page. The warning the Carmen Jenner put at the beginning of the book was NOT for fun. She is serious with what she says. I have read warnings in the past and thought 'it won't be that bad'. This one IS that bad, there is kidnapping, rape and torture, to name a few.
Throughout the book we are taken back a few years, to show what happened to Kick, to make him like he is today. These little glimpses of the past, really put together the pieces to show just how Kick became the broken man he is today, and it is not pretty. He is, by his own admission, a monster. He not only lives and breathes violence, he desires it. After being left broken by the death of his girlfriend, he has refused to 'feel'. He is cold, detached, depraved and he makes no apologies for any of it.
When Kick first comes across Indie, he recognises something in her but for the life of him, he doesn't know what it is. It eventually dawns on him, that it is her desire to fight and survive. It is that small part of her that starts to penetrate the darkness that has become his way of life. Indie is broken as a result of the ordeal she was subjected to. She shows fight and spirit, and with the help of Kick, she is able to use her fear to feed into regaining her strength and determination, which helps her maintain her fight and spirit.
This book is an emotional roller-coaster from start to finish, but it is worth it.
Kick is a beautifully f*ed up guy with a hell of a lot of issues! I wanted to reach in and glue all his broken bits together!
poor Indie/Kayla! my heart broke for her and damn it if the tears didn't fall near the end!!
This is a must read for MC Lovers and dark readers alike!
This book delivered all that in spades and a sporgasmord of biker world antics and sheninigans that pushes it into the top reads of biker books. Mostly though this is pushed into the top books of MC reads because there is reason for everything. It's definitely not an author sitting there writing bikers shagging tons of club whores for the hell of it and pie-eyed out of their brains. None of the unpleasant of the biker world was rammed down your throat. The characters wrote this story not the author, Carmen was just their to give them their voices. And oh boy I can just imagine what Kick would say to her for efforts - "Carmen that was un-fcuk-ing-believable babe. You done us fcukin' proud"
Carmen didn't hold anything back, brutally written and shittin' hell brutally good!
Wonder how many are gonna hate Juke? Or gonna take a liking to Tank? Or wanna slap Ivy but feel sorry for her? Who see's more in Indie just like Kick does? And who is also gonna be riveted to the past and what happens to Lauren. Jeepers Carmen shoved a lot in this book and thank bloody god for that! - Immensely great biker book read that I am so happy to have a received a gifted copy of in return for an honest review.
So what is it I hate about them? Well pretty much the way they are portrayed as animals and all the girls are whores. There’s got to be more than a bunch of bike-riding maniacs raping and pillaging around the country like a group of blood-thirsty Vikings without the horns!
So here you have an MC hater, 5 starring a book and smiling as I write this review!
This isn’t a love story, or a romance. This isn’t a story about a bad boy turned good. This is a story of a bloke who was born into a lifestyle that he can’t escape from. A bloke who has lost everything he cared about and now just doesn’t care. He really is living under a huge black cloud where there isn’t even a flicker of a light. He is enveloped in his own darkness and filth and he does take pleasure cocooning others in his own private hell. He doesn’t care who he hurts, how much he hurts them or how he leaves them after he’s taken what he wants. His heart is as black as the devil’s and even when you think he’s doing something good, he’s a selfish barstard and just out for his own gain.
I liked how Ms Jenner combined the present with the flashbacks. I liked how she made me turn page after page wondering if there was going to be any kind of redemption. I liked how I was sucked into this hell and I began not to care about people.Read more ›

This is definitely a bit darker than your average MC read, but so very very good. Our hero, if you can call Kick that, is a desperately damaged soul. Read morePublished 1 month ago by Karen Raines
