I started reading Kept: A Second Chance Fairy Tale expecting a complete cliche - but after a couple days of reading intense books (A Thousand Boy Kisses, and Collared), I was ready to sit back and relax with an easier read.

Boy, was I mistaken!!

Kept tells the story of single mother Lucy, her six year old son Dillon, and Michael Holden; the man who - unbeknowst to Lucy - has been paying most of their rent, and keeping their bills down, for the past number of years, for reasons known to himself.

Again with the story changer - after a few chapters, I assumed I was onto where Bextor was taking the book and made silly decisions in my mind of how it was going to end because of this. The side-line characters do show somewhat the 'usual' Good guy; bad guy POV for main female protaganist when we meet Corbin - easy to smile, and easy on the eye too, but AC keeps him loosely entwined with Holden rather than being a flat all-around nice guy, we do see his secretive side, and loyalty to Michael Holden more than once.

The story unfolds when Lucy, whom Michael has never actually met, comes to work for himself and Corbin, to replace Lillie - the motherly-type PA that they've had for years, who is finally retiring. Despite being connected with Lucy in ways she does not know of, Michael has kept his distance from her always. But these interactions are never easy - he hates the sight of her in his office immediately, but her fiesty responses grow on him over time.

Have to say I did enjoy reading very much, even though it wasn't the easy ride I was expecting. AC Bextor kept throwing in little loops - and having such a fiery lead female character against the sullen, used-to-getting-his-own-way male character was a nice change from the so very many others out there that really are entirely cliche!

Loosely Beauty and the Beast, Michael is supposed to be the beast because he isolates himself with his standoffish attitude towards other people following the loss of his son. Lucy has also suffered from the loss of her husband and is a single parent to her 6yr old son. We know from the beginning that their lives are linked somehow and that Michael is secretly supporting Lucy. His colleague Corbin, takes it upon himself to employ Lucy at their law firm and this throws the cat among the pigeons and eventually all secrets are revealed. I didn't give 5 stars because it didn't draw me in much and Lucy got on my nerves, but it is well written and interesting.

ARC REVIEW****

This is something completely new from A.C Bextor ~ I have read all of her other books and really enjoyed them. So was unsure how a contemporary romance from this author would go, wow A.C Bextor blew me away with Kept, a storyline that shows her writing talent is without a doubt outstanding.

Kept ~ Is a very powerful emotional romance based around past heartache and second changes.

Michael is a shell of his former self a grumpy man that lives a lonely life with walls built all around him, he believes that his heart will never be given away again until...

Lucy is an amazing mother, friend and works hard to support herself she is feisty, funny and speaks her mind which often gets her into trouble, life seems good for Lucy apart from the missing piece in her fairy tale ~ Prince Charming or maybe her Beast !

Kept is full of drama, twists and secrets that slowly unfold throughout the story, the passion and build up is so strong it will grab you early into this story and you will be taken on an amazing journey. I laughed, cried and screamed throughout and then smiled feeling fuzzy all over.

I hope to see more books like this from A.C Bextor in the near future and maybe Corbin & Shannan's story will be next !

Another reviewer stated how wonderful it when you read a story that's so well written like this one. It's true, this is a fabulous read. You feel you know the characters and are rooting for them to have a HEA.
Michael is a successful lawyer, going through the motions of living after a tragic accident. Lucy is a single mother to Dillon and she too is living with the loss of her husband. Their lives are already interwined when they meet and soon they become more so.
The characters are beautifully written, the plot and story thoughtful and engrossing. I could have strangled them both so many times, then laughed at Lucy's antics. Corbin, Michael's best friend, has a great supporting role and I'd like to see his story. They (Michael and Corbin) have a strong friendship which supports each other through thick and thin. It's good to read a story like this.
I think it's the authors best yet.
It's suitable for older readers due to content.
A very worthy five stars.

A well deserved 5 Stars. Kept is so different to AC Bextors other books. I loved how Michael and Lucys lives were linked without Lucy knowing it. I loved Michael and Lucy I loved their dynamic and how she gave as good as she got and how noone has ever come close to making Michael feel so out of his depth the way he feels when Lucy is involved. How do you tell someone you love your biggest secret without losing them. I literally couldnt put Kept down, my heart literally missed a few beats when l came to one point in the book when Christina Aguilera + A great new worlds's song Say Something came on tv. You can imagine this song playing in the background and it gave me chills. I loved all the disney and charater references it really suited this book and it was quite apt and through all the ups and downs it really pulls on your heart strings.
I received this Arc for an honest review
