I strongly recommend not purchasing this mattress unless you are happy for is to discolour within in months.
This mattress will fit a cot beb (aka a cot that changes into a toddler bed) not a cot only. So new parents make sure you're checking the dimensions ! It should be written somewhere on the bed frame by the manufacturer.
The mattress itself is definitely soft not firm. I remember reviews pointing this out while looking around. It's true from an adult point of view. However, your child will probably find it "firm" due to its much lighter weight. It's definitely 'springy' but not to the point to have a loud squeaky noise everytime you move.
I've purchased this particular mattress due to its breathability. If your child sleeps on the stomach (and that's very likely to happen) you can definitely be at peace.
Now what I personally dislike is the protective cover. I've never felt the necessity to turn the mattress over (summer/winter). Despite protective sheets, the cover turned yellowish at a very early stage and so the mattress. I wish the cover would be covering the whole mattress and not just its middle because children moves constantly and sleeps in various position. Another annoying feature is the fire label. I'd much rather have it sewn into the mattress itself than pending on the side for baby to play with it despite fitted sheets.
Last thing, we did experienced a "bad smell" due to the airtight packaging. We've left it out of packaging for a few days before putting our son in its cot bed and washed its cover too and it turned just fine for us.
The weird discolouration and valley has me very concerned, and I no longer feel comfortable having my baby sleep on this mattress. I'm throwing this in the bin.
My daughter has been using 'this' matress for 3 years and it is excellent, with many more years ahead of it. With our second child having now arrived I immediately purchased another. Sadly it is no longer a quality item; it's too soft, has loose coverings and generally feels of poor quality.
This item doesn't deserve it's high rating, which is based on an different product. I've given it two stars; 1 for being a matress and 2 as it would just about be OK for an older toddler.
My first mattress was used by my son through ages 1-4 and has coped well with bounces, no discolouration, cover can be removed for washing. This one hasn't been used yet as baby isn't due for a few more weeks but I was very happy to spend time searching through my Amazon purchase history to make sure I bought the same one.
For the money, it's worth the cost and even if it developed a fault after a year, £35 is cheap enough to replace.
