Korg’s KAOSS technology has been embraced by DJs, musicians and producers alike. No other interface is as intuitive, immediate or just plain fun to use. By simply touching, tapping or sliding your finger over the touchpad, the all-new KP3 allows you to control multiple effects parameters and manipulate samples in real time. On stage or in the studio, these gestures and moves can become powerful and expressive performance elements. More than a processor, the KP3 is a complete instrument allowing you to manage, recall, and play back samples; sample on the fly; and add dynamic processing to any audio signal or to the samples themselves.

The only downside was it didn't come with any cables at all, which we didn't know, so had to purchase those before we could actually use it.
How impressive it is then, to see a device utilize touch-based sample manipulation to this level of precision, far before the arrival of the iPad. Initially I was tempted by the Korg Kaoss Pad Quad Kpq, which was released last year - but after reading several negative reviews I decided to go for the KP3. Unbelievably, the Kaoss Pad 3 was first released in 2006 and yet even in 2012 it is unmatched in what it does:
Simply connect a microphone or MP3 player, plug in your amp or headphones and voila - you're making music! Live performers take note - the sample banks allow you record sounds that you make and keep them looping while you add extra layers - effectively allowing you to play multiple instruments simultaneously. If you want you can even save your samples to an SD card. The touchpad can then be used to manipulate your work, often creating sounds you'd never even dreamed of. It can even act as a MIDI controller for your live sets!
The controls are easy to operate, and well laid out - with awesome tools like the Hold button (which allows you to keep an effect or filter going, even if you remove your hands from the touchpad), Pad Motion (which lets you save your movements across the touchpad and replay them) and Resampling (which allows you to save your output to a new sample).
Whether you just want a new toy, or you're a serious stage or studio musician looking for a new way to expand your sound, there is no doubt - the Kaoss Pad 3 is a joy to work with and will really help you to generate exiting new sonic elements for your projects. Highly recommended.
Also when loading samples back into KP they are all out of sync (maybe this is just my unit?!)
This is my experience though and it has caused problems with what otherwise would have been an excellent score
