Kärcher K4 Compact
The K4 Compact Pressure Washer is the compact version of Kärcher’s mid-range machines and combines power and energy efficiency through its water-cooled induction motor resulting in exceptional performance and a longer life. A compact, lay-flat design allows the machine to be easily stored whilst the wheels and telescopic aluminium handle ensures complete mobility. The on-board storage solution means the trigger gun, hose and accessories can be stowed neatly with the machine so that they are always within reach.
A fine mesh water filter prevents dirt particles from damaging the motor and three-piston axial-flow pump, whilst a safety valve eliminates any possibility of pressure overload. The integrated suction hose allows the addition of Kärcher’s full range of detergents to assist in getting the optimum result in your cleaning task.
All Kärcher K4 Pressure washers can work using a static or harvested water source such as a water butt. Water can either be drawn into the machine through a standard hose connected to a water butt tap or using the suction hose and filter which can be purchased separately. The K4 Compact is designed for various tasks including cleaning cars, bicycles, garden furniture and fences, as well as medium sized areas around the home.

Having discussed the problem with my friends, I was an engineer before I retired, I am convinced that this is a design fault with all Karcher machines.
So because I had bought a lot of attachments that only fit Karcher units and the cost to repair the unit was about the price of a new machine I bought this one.
The K4 is a good machine and supplies more than enough pressure for all the jobs around the home and is especially good on block paving.
But I noted that in the instruction manual it tells you not to leave the machine in a garage or shed over winter but to drain out as much water as possible and take the unit into the house where the temperature stays above freezing.
When I told my wife that we had to find a place for the pressure washer in the house, she was not too happy.
Other than that the Pressure Washer is a good bit of kit.
If you have a need for a machine that is more than occasional use over say 5 years or more then consider the more pro machine it will pay back in the long run and do the job much quicker. Otherwise this is a great buy for medium duty domestic use.
A word of caution NEVER over winter it in an old building which might freeze, drain it down and store in a warm garage or house and it will last longer.
It is also surprisingly quiet and easy to store away.
The inbuilt suction tube is also very good and draws soap from any container I've tried.
