HASH(0x9e731da4) out of 5 stars Does The Job 25 Oct. 2012
By Steve Madden - Published on
I was in the market for a new set of headphones (my wife insisted I do away with my old ear buds), and I had it narrowed down between these and Sony MDRZX300. I really liked the look of these in the store, but I could find virtually no reviews for them. Oddly enough, the lack of reviews is one thing that prompted me to take a chance on them.

My first response when liberating them from their packaging was...huh, they're plastic. Hard, rigid plastic. I'm not exactly sure what I expected, but the last few pairs of over the ear headphones I had contoured to my head fairly well. These do not. When I checked myself out in the mirror, I noticed they bowed out from my head quite a bit. I was not impressed.

But I'm not about the aesthetics (or not totally about them, anyway), so I plugged in my little Sansa clip and fired up Fire Escape by Civil Twilight. I thought the bass line in the beginning would make for a nice test. I was not impressed.

'That's okay,' I thought. Headphones take some time to break in. The 2nd Law from Muse had just come out, so I went online and listened to the album a few times. Now in a Muse-fueled fury, I started firing up live concerts on YouTube and spent several hours listening.

By the end of the night, I was impressed.

For one, I found the headphones to be quite comfortable. While I thought the rigidity of the plastic might push on my head, I really had no problems wearing them for hours at a time. Also, the more I listened, the nicer they sounded. A few days ago, I was listening to my MP3 player and Fire Escape came on and I noted a marked increase in sound quality.

One thing I like about the headphones that I honestly never thought I'd use is the little flip-up cup. Both sides rotate up, which is great for storage, but the packaging advertises it as if people might actually wear them up. Well, I've found a practical use for them in my life. While at work, toiling away at the schedule, I'm required to keep an ear out on what's happening in Dispatch. This way, I can listen to music in one ear and still be present in the room. Very cool. Also, even with both cups flipped down, these aren't noise canceling. This may be a bad thing to some, but it's helpful to me. I can sit at the computer, write and listen to music, but also be able to hear when my wife is trying to get my attention or if my daughter has set my cat on fire.

I must admit, there's still a part of me that wonders if the Sony's wouldn't be better. I see them in the store and they look so pretty and shiny. And they have several very positive reviews. But considering I paid just north of $20 for this headset, I think I've gotten my money's worth.

HASH(0x953b9b28) out of 5 stars Can't beat the sound at this price! 28 April 2013

We bought 2 of these to wear at the gym. They cover your ear comfortably, so cut out most of the background racket, and the sound is very good for a $20 product. So far superior to the typical earbuds!!! They fold up compactly, compared to a lot of full-cover earphones. All-around, a great buy!

HASH(0xa2328c00) out of 5 stars Very nice 9 Sept. 2013

I bought this after doing a little research on low-end headphones. Reviews said that these had really good sound and were better than other more expensive headphones. Well I don't have a "good ear" so unless there is a lot of static or a lack of stereo, I probably would not recognize bad sound, but I'm assuming based on my research that these are a good deal. After receiving them, I only listened for a few seconds to make sure they worked properly, then I sent them off to school, and I won't see them again for 9 months. But one thing I am qualified to say: they are really cute! I love the purple! Also, they seem to fit very comfortably (though I have not tested them by wearing them for hours). Also, I don't remember if they mention this in the description, but the ear pieces flip away from the ear if you need them to (so you can hear people without taking the headphones off) and they fold flat for storage/transport.

My daughter loves these. Nice sound. Seem to be pretty well constructed. Of course, she wanted them for the purple.
