JUSTIFIED is the story of Deputy U.S. Marshal RAYLAN GIVENS (Timothy Olyphant), a true-blue hero and something of a throwback, given to wearing a Stetson and cowboy boots, carrying his sidearm in a hip holster – a weapon he only draws when he has to, and when he does, he shoots to kill, because, as he sees it, that's the purpose of a gun. The character of Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens was...

Engaging Crime Show
Verified purchase
A pleasant cop show loosely based upon the old fashioned cowboy gun-slinging sheriff of the Saturday matinee films of our youth. And it nearly pulls it off.

Problem is that it's just a bit too nice. Not cloyingly so but the lead character just needs to be a bit more hard bitten. The show treads a fine line between nearly becoming a more violent and adult show or being a far more family friendly one. I'd sort of prefer it if it was one thing or the other.

All that being said, there is no doubt that this is a decent crime show that's enjoyable and gives a nice background to Kentucky. There's little that's likely to have you on the edge of your seat biting your nails but neither is there anything that has you reaching for the off button.

I can see why this is a success and chances are if you like the shows such as Castle or Rizzoli and Isles then you'll like this one.

Great Characters, Interesting Stories, Unusual Setting
Verified purchase
I don't very often give any film/TV show 5 stars, but this one is so well written and acted it deserves them. Graham Yost and his team of writers have created colourful and believable characters very much in the vein of Elmore Leonard's books and these have been brought to life by a talented ensemble of actors. A special shout-out must go to Walton Goggins who makes the murderous Boyd Crowder into someone you almost root for. The stories? well, they're not bad, but the main attraction of this series is observing these characters living their lives in Harlan County.

Watched the entire series when it first came out and really enjoyed it. So by chance, I saw it for sale on Amazon and bought Season 1 to watch it again. And as my luck goes, a few weeks later, Amazon had the entire series on Prime. Typical!!

WATCHING THIS IS LIKE RUNNING THROUGH FROZEN MUD. THE WRITING IS JUST SO BORING, THE STORY LINES ARE SO OLD. IT IS DREADFUL. IT IS SO BAD, IT COULD ACTUALLY BE FUNNY, IF TWEAKED A LITTLE. THE ACTION IS SLOW PACED. EVEN THE ACTORS SOUTHERN TWANG IS SLOW. THE COWBOY HAT IS MORE INTERESTING THAN THE ACTORS. I PAID FOR IT, BUT DON'T KNOW IF I CAN WATCH ANOTHER EPISODE. I AM HALF WAY THROUGH EPISODE 3, AND IT IS PRETTY AWFUL. A WASTE OF MONEY AND TIME. UPDATE. I HAVE MADE IT TO EPISODE 11, AND I HAVE FOUND A BRIGHT SPOT IN AN OTHERWISE PRETTY AWFUL SHOW. THE BRIGHT SPOT IS ACTOR, WALTON GOGGINS. HE IS THE MOST INTERESTING CHARACTER ON THE SHOW. I AM STILL WATCHING IT BECAUSE OF HIM.

Nice set up, but directed towards afternoon TV audience?
Verified purchase
I bought this series on recommendation from a friend, (he said it was even better than the Sopranos, which was praise indeed) but have been disappointed by the quality of the narrative and dialogue which seems a bit afternoon TV?

I will probably watch it all the way through, but on the current evidence I won't be buying a second series.

However the basic concept is quite good and if the writing sharpens up as it goes on - who knows?

I watched the first six episodes for free. When I went back to watch the rest I was expected to pay for the series from episode one. Very under handed.
Not impressed

One of the most consistently gratifying shows on TV. Yes this is yet another cop show but it is so much more than that. It is driven by great dialogue and a fantastic ensemble cast, in a world where the plot is moved along by excellent conversations and not forced exposition and explosions.
