Review

‘I am very flattered to be mentioned in it’ - Sir David Attenborough

About the Author

Steve Stack has written (under various pseudonyms) for Private Eye, The Times, The Observer and lots of little magazines that probably don't exist any more. He is on a mission to convince the population of the planet (although a handful of people would do) that the world is actually quite a nice place when all is said and done.

I bought this as a jokey gift for someone who had given me one of the "Is It Just Me" books. I sneaked a read before passing it on (hands up anyone who doesn't do this) and was charmed.
It's a lovely little A-Z of things that make life a little bit better. You won't agree with all the selections, but it's an eclectic mix. Steve Stack has his finger on the pulse - Monkey, the BBC's Beijing Olympics hero is one of the selections. So are Internet communities which is heartening news for those of us who enjoy justifying our participation in them.
A smashing gift for anyone who is cynical and apt to offer a jaded view of things. This won't make you laugh out loud, but it will make you smile.

I've been randomly dipping into this book over the past few days and on every reading it has brought a smile to my face. Steve Stack's collection is full of all the simple, and often silly, things in life that can't fail to make you happy. The perfect antidote for the terminally miserable. Highly recommended reading for anyone who's had a bad day.

It's nice in a world where there is nothing but doom and gloom to read about minor, some may trivial things, that are important. Even if said item means nothing to you the author with his enthusiasm really sells it to you should feel positive towards that item.

I can be acccused of being overly pessimistic so I was expecting to sneer at this book, but it is wonderful. Really makes you think about all the little things, and some big things, that make your life NOT S***. And the guy writting it is hilarious too. I go back to this book whenever I have a bad day to remind me of the stuff that makes me smile. Great book for everyone.

Many of the entries made me smirk. Many made me smile. Some made me snigger. A couple made me fall about myself laughing with tears coming out of the corners of my eyes til my belly ached. It is impossible to read this and be in a bad mood.

An A-Z treat of things worth celebrating. Tightly written with a subtle undercurrent of humour, this book opens your eyes to the simplest things in life that are not crap. I read the book from cover -to-cover but it lends itself to a 'dip in' approach too. Even when you've read it, leave it lying around, revisiting each page is like meeting an old friend. A treat of a book and a perfect antidote to those whose glasses are half empty!

I bought this book a few years ago, a last minute holiday book. It has been one of the most fun, most entertaining, and uplifting books I have ever read. You can dip into this, but I defy you to manage that, without carrying on.
A lot of fun, and puts a smile on your face. Fab.
