Product Description

About the Author

After an agonising decision on whether to work in a costume shop or study journalism, life-long crafter Katie Allen went for the latter and has spent most of the last seven years writing, editing, or faffing about with websites. She is now the web editor of www.thebookseller.com and www.welovethisbook.com. But she never lost the love of making things and has managed to combine the two - her first job was on Knitting magazine, and she is a regular contributor to Mollie Makes, while from 2008-2011 she ran feminist website and magazine Fat Quarter, which featured many other creative ladies. She still fits in stitching, knitting, cutting and gluing in any spare moments, and spends far too much money on "necessary" buttons and yarn. She blogs at www.ladyglitters.blogspot.com and her Twitter is @KatieFQ

Just Sew Stories is a really great book- I came away from it feeling inspired and with lots of ideas for new craft projects. Especially like the 'pet cushions' project which I shall be making for several friends and family members this Christmas. Lots of cool images and lifestyle inspiration from a really fun and interesting author. I would also say it is suitable for everyone- from those who love the homemade DIY look but don't know where to start to the more seasoned crafter. Highly Recommended.

I'm sorry but this purchase was a big mistake. From the description I thought it would be interesting and would have some new and exciting ideas but how wrong I was. The whole books is amateurish and some of the items are really strange - who on earth would want a dog shaped cushion for instance, and who uses hankies these days. Even the embroidery on them isn't very good. The worst thing in the book is the dreadful cycling bloomers!! The binding is nice though. I have taken it to the local Oxfam Bookshop!

I borrowed this from my local library and have to say although some of the projects are definitely unique and inspiring there was not a lot here that deserved it to be made into a whole book. I would have at least expected a nice tracing page for all the lettering I will be doing (the author might like it to look "handmade" but my handwriting is atrocious!) and a pattern or two would have been nice at the very least, even to blow up on a photocopier. I could have guessed I could make an oven glove pattern by drawing around my own hand but that is not why I buy a craft book - I want the author to do the hard work for me!
Despite this I did like some of the project ideas (hence three stars) but I felt I got nothing extra on most of these projects than if I had seen a picture of it on Pintrest and i am glad i only borrowed it!

I bought this as a gift for a family member who's into making things as presents. She loved it, and I've already received one of the cat cushions as in return (thanks for that!). It's all very nicely produced and very 'Shoreditch' - a fun and different Christmas present, I'd say.

It was fun but the projects are a little basic. On the plus side were the glasses case, the pinny and oven glove. Other stuff was less good, for example the sports bag and tablet cover don't quite cut it - no interfacing so floppy and homemade looking, and the embroidered hankies look like some made at junior school.

Wish I'd got it out at the library first.

This beautiful book is a real gem, as it brings out your creativity and imagination with its remarkable crafting ideas, which are perfect for any fan of handmade. As a fan of Etsy and reading craft blogs, to visiting the Clothes Show Live in the UK every year I was so excited when I opened each page to find new, fresh and fantastic original ideas that cannot fail in blowing you away. Whether you are new to making things or are a devotee of all things handmade and unique, then this book I guarantee you will absolutely love. From adding that vintage, exclusive touch to a piece of clothing that will jazz it up and bring it bang on trend, to beading and tea parties with a difference each idea is like nothing I have ever encountered before. Covering all kinds of techniques from appliqué, to beading and sewing this book contains simple crafts such as handkerchiefs, straightforward cross-stitching to more complex designs for vintage jewelry and bracelets which will be the envy of all your friends! Alongside the quirky there are useful and traditional crafts that one can use all year round such as card making (for Christmas or birthdays), tea towels with a twist, and those home comforts like cushions and the hot water bottle in a fabulous design that is sure to warm your heart. Plus, what I loved most about this book is the section dedicated to book lovers and avid readers, with ingenious craft ideas that you will totally love for they are just inspired.

This book covers everything that you would ever want to make, from great gift ideas that you cannot find in the shops (and which you can tailor to your friend's personal taste), to those essential items for the house such as soft furnishings and kitchen items.
