This book was ok to read however I found the lead female character extremely annoying! I didn't really like her so didn't really want her to get anything she wanted! Read the story until the end but won't rush to buy another book

3.0 out of 5 stars Why does the Heroine ruin these books for me? 23 Sept. 2013
By Reading as much as I can - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
This is my (lost count) book of Jill Shalvis that I have read. I love her Harbor series, but this is my second non-Harbor series that the heroine just ruins it for me.

Lily is an ex-firefighter that gets hurt in the line of duty. She turns to going back to being an outdoor adventure guide as a 'break' to find herself. Firefighting was her life and she has no idea what she should do next.
She meets sexy, smart, way too in touch with his own feelings, Jared. Whew. This guy is supposed to be nerdy, but he's way too sexy to fall into that category at all.
They meet - sparks fly and off they go on a 4/5 day hike together with four other very interesting characters.
Lily and Jared really like each other. Jared is so sweet, brave, sexy, smart and kind. Yeah, he has NO FAULTS.
I think that may be a problem with these books. The hero is 100% perfect. He gives Lily space- falls for her completely. Then the heroine (after a few times of some well written, super hot amazing sex), pulls back. What???? Why???? The guy is PERFECT. As far as I can tell, there is no reason for the heroine to keep dumping the hero. It comes off as totally author-driven contrived and annoying. It feels temporary and false. I know that the heroine will turn a 180 and change her mind. But does the dumping have to be so drastic. Because the hero is so perfect, it just makes me dislike Lily. it's unfair since she is beautiful, kind, strong, independent and sweet. Then she has to pull something really annoying and I just want Jared to find someone that DESERVES him.

So I liked the book 80% of the way, then I should just stop reading. Because that is when Lily starts to push Jared away.

So the book does have a HEA.No Cliff hanger. A few hot scenes.

But Lily did ruin this book for me. If you can look past this- then you will really like this book. It's light, fluffy and a good quick read.
2.0 out of 5 stars Old Shalvis 30 Jan. 2014

I've come to realize that anything Shalvis, with a few exceptions, written before 2010 aren't that great. They are kind of cookie cutter. I do LOVE her more recent books.

I really enjoyed this story. The characters were very well done and the descriptions of the Sierra mts made me want to strap on a pair of hiking boots and find a guide of my own.

5.0 out of 5 stars a wonderful adventure 8 Aug. 2006
By Judy - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Mass Market Paperback
Just Try Me by Jill Shalvis is a hot and sexy tale that will also touch your heart.

Former firefighter Lily Peterson is slowly making her way back to wellness after a terrifying accident on duty. She decides to return to a former line of work as a wilderness trail guide. It's a much safer job and she can still push herself physically. Her first group really pushes her especially hiker Jared Skye.

Jared Skye a successful CEO takes the outdoor adventure to celebrate his new zest for life. After almost losing his life to cancer he vows to live every moment. One more thing to add to his list of new adventures is the delectable tour guide Lily.

Jared and Lily both have come through a life changing experience. Their chemistry and emotional connection knows no bounds and they enjoy Mother Nature to its fullest.

Just Try Me is a shinning example of what makes Jill Shalvis an exceptional author. True to life experiences and characters that you will love. Their trials will touch your soul.
