Praise for A FEW LITTLE LIES

‘Good fun’
Bookseller

‘Captures an authentic flavour of semi-rural angst… an entertaining debut’
Mail on Sunday

From the Back Cover

Katherine Bourne has been a member of that endangered species, the full-time house-wife, for over twenty years, but things have finally turned sour. While she disembowels her delicious home-grown tomatoes she dreams of murdering her husband. Why can't Harry just have an affair with a younger woman and just leave, like normal men?

But Harry has no intention of giving up his home comforts; he's been sampling forbidden fruit for a long while. Glamorous banker Carol accompanies him on weekend trips and business beanos, but she too is beginning to find that the pleasure is growing stale.

So who's fooling who? Harry, happy in his illusion that he's a sex god and that all women love him really? Katherine and Carol, unlikely partners in Harry's parallel lives?

Against a background of succulent suppers, cosy Cambridge cafes and the unexpected joys of unexplored freedom, the women decide that revenge is best eaten cold. And discover the perfect recipe…

I read this book in 2 days. Couldn't put it down! The characters are all 3-dimensional and the women make a wonderful team. Harry is irritating beyond words and the bonding between Katherine and Carol is a joy to watch! They say revenge is a dish best served cold; Katherine and Carol develop the Ice Cream Bombe of revenge for Harry! Throw in the time warp factor of the 90s and you have a warmly emotional and funny book.

If you haven't read any of Sue Welfare's books, this is a great one to start!

This was one of those books that I couldn't put down. I just had to know what was going to happen next. Nothing came before this book!

It's very difficult to talk about the book without spoiling the plot but I loved the character of Katherine and just wanted her to live a happy and fulfilled life. I even warmed to Carol and loved the way that Sue built their unusual relationship. Sue has an amazing gift of creating scenes that are so easy to picture as well as her perfectly formed characters that are easily to relate to and imagine. I felt like I'd sat in Katherine's kitchen many times.

It's a book where I tried not the judge the characters, but Harry was the baddie of the story and I wanted to slap him right from the start!

A perfectly written book, with lots of funny moments and a few emotional ones too which made for an extremely entertaining read.

Sue Welfare has done it again, Just Desserts had me enthraled from the first page, once I started reading I couldn't put it down. Sat up until 2 am reading it! The characters in her books always feel like people I know and I always feel a part of the story in some way. I love the way you get to know the characters in a way that you get to know people in real life. Sue is a fabulous story teller!

Loved this book, the characters were so easy to get into and I couldn't put the book down once I started reading, in fact, I read this in 3 days! The 90s theme running through the book, really bought back memories and gave this book a real nostalgic feel for me and I loved Katherine, she was a woman I could totally relate to. After all, no woman likes being taken for granted by their partner! I would really recommend this book if you fancy something that makes you laugh, makes you love the characters and a generally good and funny read!

Never has a book so closely mirrored my own life...from the controlling womaniser to the lovely man who entered my life and made me realise there was such a thing as being happy in a relationship. I loved the Kathy from the opening page and was cheering her on all the way thru. Lovely read and possibly a re read.

A friend loaned me the paperback of this that she had purchased while on vacation in New Zealand. She said it was hilarious and that it wasn't available in the U.S. It *is* a good story and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I especially liked the parts where the author had each main female character thinking the same thing and repeating the thought word for word for each character. A publisher in the US needs to get the rights and publish this; it would be a big seller. The friend also said she was very disappointed in the first book she wrote but we are both looking forward to the next one.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book...just couldn't put it down. Totally believable lead characters who built up and extraordinary bond ( once they found about each other!!) Fabulous chick-lit for reading in the garden on a beautiful sunny day.

I received a free copy of this book in return for an honest review.

I am, and always have been, an avid reader and my main criteria for a good author is for them to be intelligent and articulate. Countless times I’ve started reading a book with a great storyline only to find it littered with grammatical errors and glaring mistakes, but Sue meets my strict criteria and none of her books come into this category!

I always enjoy Sue’s books and ‘Just Desserts’ was no exception. The storyline was brilliant, totally believable, and with enough little twists and turns to keep you guessing what was going to happen. I am sure there are lots of love triangles like this, with the downtrodden, dutiful wife (Katherine), the stylish, glamorous lover (Carol) and the man who thinks he can have his cake and eat it (Harry). Without spoiling the storyline, I particularly liked the way Harry was treated at a certain event towards the end. He really did get his just desserts but probably not in the way he, or the readers, expected! The ending for the main characters was a surprise, not quite what I was anticipating, and that made it even more of a great read. I’d love there to be a sequel, maybe a short story, letting us know how Katherine, Carol and Harry were doing in a year’s time.

I can’t recommend this book highly enough, a great ‘rom-com’ and just the thing for stretching out on a sunlounger for a relaxing read!
