Product Description

Netherlands released, PAL/Region 2 DVD: LANGUAGES: English ( Dolby Digital 5.1 ), Dutch ( Subtitles ), WIDESCREEN (1.78:1), SPECIAL FEATURES: 2-DVD Set, Box Set, Interactive Menu, Scene Access, SYNOPSIS: Despite the red robe and wig, Judge John Deed is no average high court judge. Good-looking, fit and fifty-something, he has a rakish charm that belies his sharp intellect. His passion for justice and his maverick approach set him at odds with the Lord Chancellor's department. This judge's individual approach too often flies in the face of convention for his own good as he determinedly avoids the traditionalism the system tries to force upon him. ...Judge John Deed (Season 2) - 2-DVD Box Set ( Political Expediency / Abuse of Power / Nobody's Fool / Everyone's Child ) ( Judge John Deed - Season Two )

An absolute gem, this series and the previous one are superb. John Deed is my hero, he struggles with his conscience occasionally but goes for what he thinks is right and best for the matter in hand. His indiscretions with the ladies show the weak side of him and reminds us that he is human after all. Can't wait to watch the next series!

Martin Shaw as Judge John Deed continues to annoy and circumvent the plans of establishment figures who have agendas other than getting to the truth of the matter - while leaping in to bed with every woman in sight, mainly the two barristers Jo Mills (Jenny Seagrove) and his ex-wife, but also a colleague's wife and even his therapist. This collection is: 1 'Political Expediency' about a Sheikh, here to sign a lucrative deal, whose driver is accused of murdering a prostitute; 2 'Abuse of Power' about a man with learning difficulties wanting to retract a confession and also multiple mortgage fraud.; 3 'Nobody's Fool' where three rich kids may have killed their parents; 4 'Everyone's Child' where there is a dispute between everyone as to whether a heart transplant should go ahead against the patient's wishes.
This series doesn't shy away from confronting both sides of real moral issues that are going on every day.

Martin Shaw as Judge John Deed effortlessly portrays the judge who believes in meeting out justice with no bias or self interest to cloud his judgement. The interest is maintained by making the story-lines cover different aspects of present day life stories and illustrating how political and self interests play a dominant role in influencing the outcome of cases brought before judges.

Martin Shaw excels in his acting when he brings to bear his body language to portray his feelings and his eternal need for female affection and love. This is an excellent series for people who are interested in english legal dramas and what happens behind the scenes to influence the outcome of the cases.

This is English legal drama at its best. Martin Shaw is simply awesome as Judge John Deed. The storylines are not only intriguing but very interesting. However what makes this drama different from your everyday legal drama is the weaving of the personal life of the rebellious and unconventional Judge Deed into it. His on /off romance with legal eagle Jenny Seagrove (Woman of Substance, Hold Dream) brings an added touch of romance to it, as well as his dealings with his ex-wife, father -in-law (an appeal court Judge), and of course his daughter. It is difficult to describe how captivating and enthralling this drama is, you just have to watch it. There are four long episodes in this set - 356mins of viewing pleasure. The whole ensemble cast and the writing is star quality. Well done to the BBC and the writer as well as the actors for such a high quality and entertaining drama. You can't go wrong with this. Enjoy.

My wife and I have been anxiously awaiting the release of this second series to DVD. It is a terrific show. The actors and acting are superb. The entire cast is perfectly cast - which seems to be the case with all of our favorites. The story lines are most engaging. What more do you want from TV? We can only hope that subsequent seasons are released soon...

Did not see this on TV first time round and was recommended it by a friend. Bought second-hand at a good price and well worth the money. Martin Shaw playing a very independent Judge with strong views who ruffles many feathers in the courtroom environment.
Good storylines and good acting.
