Product description

About the Author

John Wagner is, to many fans, the very heart of 2000 AD. Involved from the earliest days of the Galaxy’s Greatest Comic; he co-created Judge Dredd, as well as Strontium Dog, Robo-Hunter and a host of other 2000 AD mainstays, including the critically acclaimed Button Man. Incredibly prolific throughout his career, and writing under a diversity of pen names–often in concert with Alan Grant, with whom he devised and developed 2000 AD’s sister comic, Judge Dredd: The Megazine–Wagner has worked extensively beyond the Thargian universe, originating and editing a number of British periodicals as well as writing many American standards, including BATMAN, LOBO, The Punisher and Star Wars bounty hunter Boba Fett. His Paradox Press graphic novel A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE (illustrated by Vince Locke) was adapted into a critically acclaimed film by director David Cronenberg in 2005.

Alan Grant (born 1949) is a Scottish comic book writer known for writing Judge Dredd in 2000 AD as well as various Batman titles during the late 1980s, 1990s and early 2000s. He is also the creator of the characters Anarky, Victor Zsasz, and the Ventriloquist.

Fantastic set of stories in a hardback collection. Dark, violent AND funny in places. A truly original idea, marvellous illustrations and genuinely creepy villains. A "must have" for any Dredd fan!

Utterly fantastic reprints that have been coloured by someone who really cares. I fell in love with this comic almost immediately, and is now the most precious thing in my collection. Judge Dredd and his best buddy Death have never looked so drokking beautiful.

IDW set the bar high with their fantastic Block Mania/Apocalypse War release but I'm delighted to say that this collection more than matches it.

I cannot praise the colourist Charlie Kirchoff highly enough: Brian Bolland with his perfectionist line work has often suffered at the hands of colourists but Kirchoff is highly skilled, preserving Bolland's detailed art and (dare I say it) often enhancing it.
Brett Ewins likewise benefits while Cliff Robinson's rush job and Robin Smith's lesser talent are improved ten-fold with Kirchoff's choice of colour and use of effects.

The Dredd stories Judge Death & Judge Death Lives are all time classics while Anderson's Four Dark Judges, while not quite up to that standard, is certainly a good yarn.

You are not going to see a better presentation of these stories and art and I highly recommend this book

5.0 out of 5 stars Nicely bound, nice collection, but if you are on a budget not a must have

The two classic tales in which we first met Judge Anderson, Judge Death, and the other three Dark Judges, plus a great stand alone Anderson vs. Death story arc as well, all nicely bound, in great color, and a little larger in size than the stories found in the Complete Case Files for older people with more tired eyes from years of reading comics, ha ha. Aside from a few one page pin ups there is nothing really extra, so if you already have these in black and white and you are on a budget, you may not want to spend the money, but worth it in my book to have the stories all in one place. A great addition to my ever growing Dredd library.

Not the best or one of the best Judge Dredd stories, but still an okay one, and one that I would recommend to read, especially of those who are a fan of the character.
