Product Description

The 1970s saw a plethora of great funk and jazz albums that for somewhat mystifying reasons have failed to be reissued. Sitting at home one night it occurred to me that we had better get a move on and get them out. With this in mind we are this month launching BGP Funk and Soul Classics: long out-of-print albums on CD featuring the very best mastering, great packaging and some nifty sleeve notes to let you know where the album fits into the scheme of things. Our first batch of releases come from the extensive catalogue of Fantasy Records and feature a host of albums that are sought after by collectors the world over.

* Hailing from Portland, this eight piece jazz funk outfit should have been the next in line for multi-platinum success after Earth, Wind & Fire and Kool & The Gang. It seems unfair that they didn't make a big impact on the charts, because over six albums recorded for Fantasy Records they mixed jazz and funk to perfection. Their legacy really is something special.

* Their very finest LP is "Joyous", whose title track has been an instant and ongoing club classic since it was first issued, but marvelous instrumental grooves, stoned freak outs and an amazing slice of dance soul in `Let Me Be The One'.

By Sebastian Palmer TOP 1000 REVIEWERVINE VOICE on 8 July 2011
Format: Audio CD
Miguel's right: if you like funk (well, and soul, jazz, r'n'b, groove music, latin, fusion... and so on, you get the picture!), this is an essential recording.

Pleasure deserved - and still deserve - to be more of a household name. This is a great recording, with loads to recommend it. But the standout track is 'Joyous', whose title aptly describes the vibe. Bruce 'the round mound of get down' Carter supplies the super-funky beats, and the band build a righteous edifice of soulful funky groove atop his rock-solid foundations. This one track alone justifies the price of poichase, and BGP are to be thanked and commended on their good taste in re-issuing this gem.

It's brilliant... nuff said!

Pleasure is imo one of the best Funk-jazz bands of 70's and begin 80's.
All the albums are of a very high quality and very original!!
This music is timeless and can be played every day!

I really do hope all the other albums which are not released on CD yet will follow soon!!

very good music arangements, tight vocals, if this band was on the east coast this would have been a very big thing. the album sound is funky-jazzy yet it has some very danceable songs such as "let me be the one" and "dance to the music". Pleasure was a very good band who should have been better known and you should give this cd a try.

i love pleasure but the sound quality of this CD is terrible. it has a very weak sound. i love a powerful base sound to my music. you have to turn it up louder just to get minimum sound.

Another fantastic album from the fellas from Portland. Their infectious grooves really get the energy flowing every time I listen to this amazing album.
