This book, Journey Through Space, is a Level 2 book which is described as "Beginning to read alone". According to the book this means that it has: Longer sentences and increased vocabulary; Information boxes full of extra fun facts; a simple index.
In this lovely book, the child gets to take a tour of some of the planets that feature heavily within the Star Wars films. There is some interesting information about the planets and also about the inhabitants of the planets. The pictures, as with all of these books, are stunning and there are lots of them. Even if a child doesn't feel like attempting to read on a particular day, they will still enjoy browsing through the book and seeing all the different planets and people.
This book makes a lovely change from the school reading that my son brings home. He thinks that it is "a grown up book" because it looks impressive and doesn't have cartoons or anything like that in it! Of course, because of the nature of Star Wars, there are some tricky words in the book - particularly names. However, if you have a little Star Wars fan on your hands then the chances are they won't be too fazed by this and, in this book, there is pronunciation help with some of the trickier planet names etc. I think that they've done a great job with the text because they have managed to keep the sentences and language as simple as possible, but have still produced an interesting and fact filled read for a little one.Read more ›
