Originally bought when I was 18 years old, working in a Youth Hostel and dreaming of travel. I never did do any travelling, but I have read a lot of books about it; this still remains one of the best. This is the second of his earliest books of which the first is Journey Through Britain which he completed as a young man in the 1960's. I also particularly enjoyed his Journey to the Jade Sea which is full of adventures with temparamental camels.

Unfortunately, Mr Hillaby has passed away and there will probably never be a reprint. If you can get it in hardback buy it, because they will have lasted better. The paperback version will probably have dried out by now and the spine will break, causing the pages to fall out.
