Product description

Review

Five thousand years ago, Inanna, the Queen of Heaven and Earth, dares to journey to meet Ereshkigal, the Queen of the Underworld. Jane Meredith wisely guides us today on this crucial, mysterious and challenging journey (the descent and the ascent) that every one of us must take as part of our initiation into becoming human. The reward is to know our selves and so, to be able to care for others. This is a wise, wonderful and inspiring book. Thank you, Jane. --(Diane Wolkstein, Author, Inanna: Queen of Heaven and Earth: Her Stories and Hymns from Sumer)

Like others before her, Meredith challenges the reader to face the darkness within themselves and within nature more broadly. That her challenge is so comprehensive makes this a book worth reading. --(Emma Restall Orr, Author of Kissing the Hag

I have always been drawn to the Dark Goddesses so knew that this book would be perfect for me and my intuition wasn't wrong. This is a wonderful book that will have you nodding in agreement to the introduction and making connections with all that Jane Meredith describes. The book contains a journey, laid out in four sections with all the information and directions that you need to take that journey...to reclaim your soul. It is powerful and emotional but will bring you wonderful and amazing results.

Due to my rather Christian upbringing being asked to "Journey to the Dark Goddess" would have sent me running to the hills in the past. However, since my own journey down a more pagan spiritual path began I find I'm a little more open minded than I used to be.
This book arrived as I was recovering from a major life changing operation. I found I had nothing to do but sit, and read. For a normally active wife and mother, holding down a full time job and a home, I was finding my confinement a little difficult to say the least. Thank goodness for a book to loose myself in.
However, if I was hoping for an easy time on my journey to visit this Goddess I was very much mistaken. Jane Meredith pulls no punches, and although wonderfully descriptive and enthralling, she has an uncanny way of leading you to truths about yourself you may rather not confront.
This is not a book you can gallop through. Jane asks you to invest time in this quest, and believe me it will be worth it.
When I have finished this book I will pass it on to my teenage daughter. I only wish I'd had access to this book at her age.

REVIEW OF
"JOURNEY TO THE DARK GODDESS"
Sometime it is hard to understand or to rationalise the "bad" things that we all experience, death, illness, relationship break ups, unemployment, depression, the list is almost endless. We are taught; perhaps even expected within our society to at best suffer these events stoically or worse to ignore them or to treat them as things to be suffered and then forgotten about as quickly as possible. Bad things detract us from our constant pursuit of happiness, pleasure, success. Rarely within so called "New age spirituality" is the dark side of life, the dark Goddess, presented as anything other than something to be avoided.
Jane Meredith in her book "Journey to the dark Goddess", asks us to embrace the darkness, to welcome the bad things that happen and to not be frightened of them. They are, she argues, part of the natural cycle of life. They allow the body and the mind to reset, rebalance as it were. Once you understand this; you honestly feel somehow lighter and less pessimistic. This simple, natural reasoning applies not only to the personal but to all aspects of life, of society, even the economy and that; if embraced, gives a clearer understanding of and acceptance of the ups and downs we all experience.
Through a series of meditations, rituals and explorations of Goddess mythologies (Inanna, Persephone, Pysche) Jane Meredith invites the reader on a journey of self discovery. We are invited to welcome the dark Goddess and to understand the dark Goddess as compassion.
A wonderful book that; although predominantly written for women (I would ask why), is a book that I would highly recommend for everyone regardless of gender or sexual orientation. (4.5 star rating).

This is a book which is long overdue, being one which takes the sometimes scary concepts of looking within oneself, of the long dark night of the soul and of the Dark Goddess herself and puts them in an accessible but beautifully written book.

I could not put it down and devoured it in a couple of days. I then went back and read it again in a more piecemeal fashion, dipping in and out of gloriously enveloping and descriptive stories of ancient Goddesses and Jane Meredith's easy to follow rituals. Rituals which I felt had a strong grounding in reality whilst still being wonderfully mysterious and magical.

I enjoyed the layout of the book too, it being split into four sections each dealing with a different stage of the journey

I really don't want to say too much more as the authors words speak to the reader of a deeply personal amd individual level... but I highly recommend you grab a copy for yourself...The author bares all and dares the reader to do the same!

I think it is important when seeking information regarding the dark feminine and the descent, that the book is written with compassion and empathy. This book is. Jane Meredith explains the circumstances around the descent with the upmost understanding and compassion. She reaches out to her readers and touches them. It is imperative that we, as women, feel our journey is understood and that we have a valuable companion on that journey. This book is that companion. It brings darkness, hope and faith.

This is a must-have books for anyone's collection, whether they are Pagan or not. At some point in your life, you will make a descent to the Dark Goddess. Whether this is by choice or not is irrelevant. It is also a descent that people will resist and fight but will ultimately lose as they travel downwards. This is a journey that everyone NEEDS to make, to see their soul complete. Without darkness there is no light and life should be about balance.

I have made my own descent many times, the first one that I am conscious of was 10 years ago. This book helped me to understand things that I had only touched the surface of. It centers mainly around the Sumerian Goddess Inanna and the Greek Goddesses Persephone and Psyche, although other Dark Goddesses are mentioned. The books contains preparations, meditations and rituals to help you work through your journey.

A wonderful book to add to your collection that you will want to read again.
