The chapters are synchronised perfectly. The master's voice first, giving his thoughts of what's passing then the slave's voice, redoing the same moment in time but with her thoughts, often echoing his words but putting her take on them.
The two voices work incredibly well together, at times when I was reading the masters voice, I wanted to cry for the slave, but then when I saw it from the slave's point of view it became obvious that they were almost part of the same whole, bound by their mutual needs or desires.
If you are up for an intense Master/slave read and willing to look at it from the characters point of view, without being to faint-hearted, then this is a wonderfully written example. The intensity of such a relationship is portrayed brilliantly in every chapter.

Why Not 5 Stars?
The repeating scenes did not hold my attention. I found that I was skimming some of the dialogue because I had just read it verbatim a few pages ago.
Too short to understand and relate to the characters.
The slave - that word also makes me pause. It's extreme and once again, draws me and frightens me at the same time. Those are the best sort of emotions. The slave's POV following the D's POV were not just a rewrite of a scene but a true retelling from a whole other set of emotions. These emotions were more accessible to me - or maybe the way to say it is they were more easily processed by me as I could relate to the thoughts, the feelings.
The love between the two characters was evident and deep. It was written beautifully - beautifully. It's not a light read - at all - so be prepared. My only criticism is that it was too short. I agree with the other reviewer, in the next one, I want more.
The concept of a book written by a man and a woman together is a tricky one, and often results in disappointment. Not every duo is cut out to be a Nicci French. The Journal came with high recommendations, but I was reluctant to buy it. A book that explores the same scene form the dominant as well as the sumissive point of view, requires chemistry between the two writers to complement each other, rather than duplicate the same scene in other words. But I was in for a pleasant surprise. Instead of getting bored reading the same scene for the second time, it became more interesting, gained depth.
Maybe it was the difference between the dominant POV chapter short and factual and the Submissive POV chapter more comprehensive and full of emotion. Maybe it was the difference in general between a man and a woman, between an dom and an sub that worked rather well. And so the 9-out-of-10-books- story progressed to a book with interesting characters. As the intensity of the book increases, so does the chemistry between the two writers. And that is in itself a promise to a sequel. The only negative thing I can think of about the book is the size of it. If there is going to be a sequel I want it twice the size of this one!
I believe there are a series of books planned by these two authors and I'm looking forward to reading what they come up with next. If you're interested in the psychology of how a BDSM Master/slave relationship works, this is a great read.
Alternating chapters written by The Master and The Slave make this book unique. Getting to experience the points of view of both characters makes the story come alive and elevates the book from being a series of erotic scenes to being a portrait of a BDSM relationship.
My one small complaint was that I wanted more! I would love to see the series expanded to show the evolution of their relationship.
So if you're looking for erotica that is well written and hot within the context of a master/slave relationship, check this out.
