From the Manufacturer
The world’s best-selling Deluxe Blended Scotch Whisky
With a long list of medal wins behind it, Johnnie Walker Black Label sets the benchmark and is considered "the Everest of deluxe whiskies" (Jim Murray, author of the Whisky Bible).
Whiskies that have been perfectly matured for a minimum of 12 years, including more than 30 Malt and Grain Whiskies. Each whisky is carefully chosen by our blenders for a rich, complex and incredibly well-balanced flavour:
- Rich, fruity and spicy flavours from Malt distilleries including Blair Athol in the Highlands and Cardhu on Speyside
- Smooth, creamy toffee notes from Strathmill on Speyside and Cameronbridge Grain Whisky from the Lowlands
- Smokiness of the finish from Caol Ila Malt Whisky from the island of Islay
Johnnie Walker Black Label helped John Walker & Sons secure a Royal Warrant from King George V in 1934. The warrant to supply the Royal Household is an honour that the company still holds today and is testament to the quality of its whiskies.

Among the many different malt and grain whiskies in this blended scotch the two main ones are Talisker and Caol ila for those that want to know and both are equally impressive on their own but together they create something truly special. This whisky is at 40% alcohol by volume and no whisky in this blend is under 12 years old.
Now nosing and tasting whisky is subjective to each person so keep that in mind when you read my own personal tasting notes below.
Nose Neat: Initially toffee and a persistent sweetness with smoke all the way through
Taste Neat: Very smoky and an alcoholic bite on the tip of the tongue, behind the smoke you get a sweetness coming from toffee and dried fruits such as raisins.
After adding a few drops of water and waiting 10 minutes:
Nose: More rounded and the smoke has settled down with the toffee on the nose really coming through
Taste: Still smoky but not as overpowering so the dried fruits and toffee really come through, almost a creamy-ness to it.
Finish: Drying in the mouth, smoke and toffee lingers for a few minutes.
Other things i noted: Seems to last at the back of the throat longer than many other whiskies, probably down to the peat they have used.Read more ›
Also was Christopher Hitchens go-to drink, a plus for me.
Forget the Green Label (for it's price you may as well get a single malt) and don't waste your time with the red unless you are mixing your Whisky with coke or lemonade. The black Label I personally believe tastes the best straight no water no mixer.
Pick up a bottle and enjoy!
Such a distinct taste and smell, I recommend this to anyone who drinks the likes of jack daniels and bells.
