Born and raised in Carlisle, John Irving Clarke gained a B.A. degree from Leeds University and a teaching qualification from St Martin's College, Lancaster. He held teaching posts in Hertfordshire and Nottinghamshire before becoming a Head of English in Castleford and then Doncaster. His teaching career culminated in an Assistant Headteacher post at Swinton near Rotherham.
John has had short stories broadcast on BBC Radio Sheffield and Leeds and published variously. He has had several non-fiction pieces included in the Times educational Supplement and poems printed in a number of magazines including Poetry Monthly and Smiths Knoll.
Now concentrating on writing Young Adult fiction, John does take time out to give talks and lead workshops. He also runs Currock Press, details of which can be found at currockpress.com
