this book is amazing.
it has documentary images of Coventry, photographs from Tripoli as well as colour images.
highly recommended for stunning black and white images as well colour images
The book is chronological and covers 55years. In addition to the images there is an excellent explanation of how and why he chooses the photograph as a means of communication.
Even though most, if not all of the work shown here is realised on film, there is much to interest the digital worker.
Not all the work is landscape, ranging from early documentary practice through to recent colour work that Blakemore makes into unique one off books. Yes, the tulips are here, but there is much, much more.
The book itself is excellently printed and bound. Definitely one of my "desert island" tomes!
It is the kind of book you look forward to re-visiting, each viewing yielding something new.
I am currently undertaking an A level in photography and hoping to progress on to a degree in the subject. I often buy photography based books to inspire, motivate and aide with my course research.
This book is very impressive, showcasing 55 years of this photographers immense talent in one volume. This is a pretty hefty book and filled with selections of his photographs from various projects he has undertaken and published individual books on.
Initially I searched everywhere for an affordable copy of his book "spirit of place" but they were well outwith my price range. Luckily, this book contains quite a few images from that particular publication.
I would recommend this book to anyone, absolutely fantastic addition to my ever growing photobook library.
