Was looking for a way of holding my smartphone steady while using the video camera. Already had a Joby Gorilla Pod Stand so thought that there must be a way of mounting this thing on that thing...and my friend Amazon had the answer.

I looked at various cheaper looking options and decided to pay that little bit extra for the solution as my experience with Joby products had been good. The product arrived the next day.

Yes it is a non assuming bit of plastic but it does its job really well. The spring is really grippy and holds the phone firmly in place. As you can see in the video I wasn't able to shake it from the mount.

Joby GripTight XL - it works

Joby has been promising me the wider jaw version of the GripTight for over a year. It was beginning to look like "vapour". But it's finally here.

The jaws open wide enough for a phablet type phone (I use a Galaxy Note). The build quality is far better than competing products (I've resorted to one and the screw socket lasted about four months).

I have a small Arca Swiss compatible quick release plate on mine with a profile that keeps the GripTight entirely pocketable. And with the small plate it mounts on any tripod I have. So it works well Q/D on a good "table-top tripod" and such.

The lip on the jaws are just deep enough for the phone to hold IN a decent case which is important. In my case an Urban Armor Gear case. Though I'm not sure it would cope with an Otterbox.

I'm not a fan of phone cameras at all but the Joby GripTight XL helps - not least in low light. And of course for a timed release.

Awesome ultra portable smartphone grip, not as sturdy as I would like but good for a back up or for indoor tripod situations, wouldn't use it for anything handheld. Light weight and ultra portable.

In terms of build quality it feels like it's well built and works well with a large phone such as the Samsung S7.

This is a great piece of equipment! It fits the iPhone 6 Plus easily. If you have a smaller phone please check what size you need. I'm pretty sure they do a smaller size, but this one is for the larger phones.

It holds it firmly enough at any angle and doesn't move or fall.
I've connected it to a camera tripod and a Gorilla pod and is definitely worth the money. I've had no problems with it.
Very pleased with my purchase.

Snapped after 2 Months Not a Premium Product

Having had a few Joby products I opted for this one when looking for something to hold my phone while driving, I bought it with the suction cup and gorilla pod arm, I must say the suction cup is brilliant the best I have owned, the arm well it does the job but the weak point is this grip.

For £15.00 I would have expected the grip to be better made, I had been using it for around 8 weeks and suddenly it just broke in half while fitting in my phone

Perhaps I have been unlucky, I plan to contact them to see what kind of customer service they offer on their premium priced products for what is a piece of plastic with a spring. So just beware these products don't look like they are built to last for the price we pay

This is certainly a well made accessory but even so rather overpriced. Good points are the fact it folds absolutely flat and can easily be carried in a pocket and the tripod mount is of good quality. Disappointing is the fact that the phone can really only be used in landscape mode. Despite being able to easily rotate the mounting to accommodate portrait filming, the spring fixing is insufficient to ensure that the phone stays in place and doesn't drop out of the mount altogether!

I have a Gorilla Pod and this work perfectly with it. I have a Sony Z3+ which has a bunch of buttons on the side making it slightly awkward to position this gripper, but it does the job even when it is positioned to one end of the phone, which is in a slim-ish case.

With the phone in it actually works on its own as well. the 'foot' is just big enough to stand the phone up on when its in the gripper. I wouldnt risk it up high on a windy day but it could be useful if you didnt have place for a tripod or simply didnt have one.
