Anyhow, this Gorillapod arrived today and right away i thought "i can never use that with my new flash, too weak!"
How wrong could i have been?
Ok, the pod may not support the weight fully in the upright position, but hang it from something and it stays put, doesn't slip and isn't giving me any worry that it might slip. So i fully intend to hang it from branches, railings, scaffolding, drainpipes, anything i can find.
This will be perfect for using outdoors with my flash doing strobist things, its ideal because it is so easy and quick to set up, once the thread is mounted and locked in place, there are no screws to use, no legs to extend, its simply a grippy thing that should really be punching above its weight, but incredibly the Gorillapod is much tougher than it looks, it is so versatile and i am glad i bought mine, specially in yellow =)
I have added a few images to showcase it's speedlight handling capabilities.
It's much lighter than I expected too, will come in handy for day trips, rugby games (Haven't tested that yet, but I can picture it attached to the railings/seat in front), camping, and trips abroad!
I am absolutely delighted with this product and will soon be buying the magnetic version.
The Gorillapod is one of those really unusual but revolutionary ideas, once you have one you'll wonder how you managed without it. The legs bend in all sorts of directions and it will pretty much wrap around anything, from tree branches to fence posts, and the ability to independently position the legs means you can steady and straighten your camera no matter how uneven the surface.
One you own one of these you'll never go back to a normal tripod. Fantastic!
Highly recommend this, you won't be disappointed. The only thing I'd point out is that it's under 15cm, so I'd recommend a larger one for professional use, but this is perfect for holiday shots, and easy to fit in a bag on a night out!
One small downpoint is that it could be a bit bigger, but for most peoples applications it should work perfectly.
Overall, extremely useful and a good bit of kit.
Mine is green and black - too camouflaged - so easy to leave behind in bushes or grass - next time i'd buy yellow
All expense spared

Shorter, smaller than I was expecting, but it's sturdy, steady, looks great and does the job. Looking forward to using it for some night sky shots later in the year. Love it!Published on 21 Oct. 2013 by L. Crossley
