Top Customer Reviews

By Clare O'Beara TOP 500 REVIEWER on 27 July 2012
Format: Paperback
The story of Jill occupies a series and at the start Jill is a grownup office worker (or perhaps an author) with her friend Ann saying "You never told them about the pony trek."

Anyway the story gets under way and tells a somewhat dated but practical and friendly tale of a bunch of young people trekking ponies through relatively car-free countryside. Jill hits an overhanging branch and gets concussion. There is not a great deal to the tale as the series was running out of steam. It is quite readable for young pony fans but is not the best of the books. I recommend the earlier books as more fun.

For a good contrast I can recommend Martin Rides The Moor, Come Down The Mountain and King Sam by Vian Smith, set in Dartmoor. Smith was a racehorse trainer and a better writer.

Bought for a 13 yr old girl who loves pony adventures -- these books may be old but just show the old ones are always the best -- pony adventures never date they just have to find a phone box in an emergency and not use a mobile!!

I first read this book when I was 13 and after reading it again now at the ages of 34 I honestly love it just as much! Buy this for your daughter or for yourself because you both will love it!
