I am using this book as an introduction to Judaism for our Access to Judaism class at our Synagogue. I would recommend this for others seeking Judaism and looking to find out what it might involve in their lives.

I strongly agree that this is a great book. Anyone interested in Judaism or looking to convert will find this book indisposable.

Keep it close as this is one of those books you won't want to read from cover to cover, but you will enjoy dipping into from time to time.

5.0 out of 5 stars JPS Guide to Jewish Traditions 19 Jan. 2009
By Deborah Michelle Sanders - Published on Amazon.com

The JPS Guide to Jewish Traditions (JPS Desk Reference Series)
This book gives an encyclopedic guide to Jewish life & law. Although it purports to be non-denomicational, it is really geared towards the Conservative Movement. It has a thorough index, so one can find whatever is in the book. My Rabbi had a hair-cutting service for his 3-year-old son, but there was nothing about that custom in this book. But I looked up several other topics & they were all covered, & thoroughly at that. Recommended highly.
4.0 out of 5 stars Why do Jews do that? 24 April 2015

My wife is Jewish, but she could never explain to me the reasons for some of the practices she follows. This book explains both what the laws are and why they exist.
