Born in Wales, brought up in New Zealand, Jess hit the road at 18 and hasn't looked back since. A small obsession with hummus brought her to the Middle East for the first time in 2004 and she moved there in 2007. Based anywhere on the overland trail between Cairo and Istanbul for much of that time, Jess has authored and co-authored several guidebooks to the region for Lonely Planet and Footprint Books as well as writing for newspapers and magazines such as The Telegraph, The Independent, Wanderlust and BBC Travel. She blogs about travel at www.roadessays.wordpress.com and tweets about all things Middle Eastern @jessofarabia.
