This is what I'd call a gentle tale, i.e. one without huge ups and downs or drama, despite there being a very real issue to deal with, other than the 17yr age gap between the leads, that leaves you with a satisfied feeling.

It's hard to review without spoiling it, but I thought that the author dealt with the subject matter without making it a huge issue, though admittedly it was a serious one, and with both leads showing common sense and practicality. I liked that it was a gentle tale in which the leads took the time to get to know each other as equals, changing their relationship from casual acquaintances to lovers. I also liked the link/s that drew them together and that they had an ally in the older lead's son, who played Cupid.

It's a tale that I'll get out again to read when I'm in need of a pick-me-up. The only reason for me that it loses a few marks, is that there's no epilogue showing the leads living their HEA, and IMHO, there needed to be one, and, it's a little overpriced for the length of the tale.

Ebook courtesy of the author in return for an honest review.

I love Cardeno C's novels, the characters, families and friendships he creates, but what I don't love is the way so many authors in this genre are flipping out short stories in the guise of novels. It's cheating, because they are not even collections of stories. It means that character, setting and plot are underdeveloped, leaving the reader with a niggling feeling of disappointment, of being short-changed, and not just from a monetary point of view. We buy books on trust, having come to know and enjoy particular authors, but it doesn't take too many disappointments before we start thinking twice, and a few more after that to stop buying. Which a a great pity, as getting stuck into a new novel by a favourite author is one of the joys in life.

Tanner fell for Mike's dad, 6 years ago and never stopped. Steve is mourning the loss of his partner, and Tanner's mentor, Jesse. Tanner never thought taking Steve dinner, cos Mike asked him to check up on him, would change his life.

There comes along, once in a while, a book that gives you the warm and fuzzy feeling that lasts for days. THIS is such a book.

Tanner noticed Steve right away, and kept his silence all this time, because Steve was in mourning. Steve also noticed Tanner, but not quite in the same way. That they did was picked up. A single phone call pushed them both over.

Its written entirely from Tanner's POV in the first person. Not my favourite, as you know. But here?? Don't care. Tanner is so deliciously young and naïve, so smitten with Steve, I don't care. Besides, Steve has a lot to say and he more than makes up for it.

Its only short, just under and hour and a half reading time for me, but it packs quite and warm and fuzzy punch. There is no drama, no break up/make up, no danger, no crime, none of that. What there, is a beautifully love story of two men falling in love. THATS IT!! BUT I mean this in a good way, a very good way.

It's not as explicit as some Cardeno C books, but again, a good thing. What is here, is beautifully written, deliciously told.

This is book two in the Hope series, you don't need to have read book one, Jared is mentioned, briefly, so we get none of Jared and Lucas. I do wonder if the sheriff is next, after his midnight phone call??

Thank you, for the warm and fuzzies.

5 stars.

I bought my ebook copy.

Typical CC characterisation, which is prevalent in a lot of her stories. One smaller femme guy and much larger 'butch' guy. Both MCs were likeable, the younger, I found, quite sweet. In fact 'sweet' sums up the whole story. Tanner has a massive crush on Steve, his best friend's dad, little does he know that his feelings are returned. The story kind of trips along and is very engaging and gentle. There is a bit of a 'shocker' in the story, which was dealt with like it was no big deal. Afterwards I did wonder why the author bothered to include it, I didn't really get its purpose. Still, a nice little story, although I do think it was overpriced. It's very short.

Loved this story, it really got to me. Jesse owned a diner, met Steve, married him and the two adopted Mike. Mike and Tanner have been best friends for many years. Jesse gives Tanner a job at the diner, training him up in all aspects of running the diner, and when Jesse died he left his diner to Tanner. Right I'm stopping here because I don't want to give away anymore of this beautiful story. You simply must read this book, it's so sweet

The blurb for this book hit all my book-lovin' buttons and it did not disappoint. This was a pretty much angst free, beautiful progression of a loving relationship between the two MCs.

I absolutely loved it and it goes straight to my comfort reread list for when I need a pick me up and feel like I'm wrapped up in a story like a warm snuggly blanket with hot chocolate on a rainy day :)
