This is an OK mirror, but it does have some flaws. Mainly, I hate the filters Jerdon gives you to see how you look in other lights. The slider is junky and the bulbs never quite line up properly for the "Day" setting. The Day setting is really the only useful one - the green, purple, and pink ones are ridiculous; they don't flatter anyone and they're not at all realistic to any home or office I've ever been in! I can't imagine anyone finds these other three settings useful. I wish Jerdon would just realize we want the brightest light possible when doing our makeup, and just give us that and that alone.
The reason I keep buying this mirror is because it's the only one I can find that has the features I want, which are as follows. First, I must have a mirror that plugs in. I use my mirror A LOT, so if I had one that runs on batteries I would be going through batteries like crazy! Second, I want one with a center mirror that swivels horizontally, not vertically. I find the ones that swivel on a vertical axis to be totally useless. When doing mascara or when you need to look down, you simply must have a mirror that swivels on a horizontal axis, like the Jerdon.
The magnification on this is good, but it is a little distorted. I don't use the magnifying side much - only to tweeze my brows, so I don't really need it to be perfect.
Overall, this is a good product and really one of the only ones in its class that has these features. Until there is something better in this price range, I will continue to buy it. I do recommend it, but the buyer should expect to need a new one every three years or so. If you divide the $35 over three years, you are only paying around $12 per year.
The lighting is pretty strong, but in a good way. I want to be able to see any mistakes with blending, etc. and the lighting definitely assists with that. It's really good when tweezing or needing to see individual pores, that kind of thing as well. There is also a slider which allows you to change the color of the lighting, so that can be helpful as well. The ability to switch between the regular and magnified mirrors just by rotating is also very handy and the side mirrors are a nice bonus.
First, the mirror is made of light weight plastic. As a result, it is not all that durable. I have had the plastic part in the back of the mirror (back step?) that rotates down break for 2 out of the 3 mirrors purchased. I was able to use duct tape and reconnect the back step, but it was still a big hassle.
Second, the style of the mirror is pretty dated looking. It is made out of white plastic, which gets dirty quickly when around makeup and is a pain to clean because of all the nooks and crannies. Also, the font/other design elements look a bit cheesy, but that is just a nit picky observation.
I have purchased makeup mirrors that were much more stylish looking (oval, silver mirrors), but none of them have come anywhere close to the utility of this mirror. Overall, I definitely recommend this mirror in terms of utility, but it would be great it eventually the style/design of the mirror could be updated to address the flimsiness of the back step and just to make general design improvements.
I bit the bullet & ordered an expensive vanity mirror with 5X from Frontgate (that I have not received yet) hoping that it will give me better service. I sit down at my vanity & apply make-up everyday. It is important to me that I have a mirror with good optics & a bright light. Jerdon has cheapened their product to the point that it no longer functions to meet my needs. I will pay more for quality.
