After residing on the tropical south coast of England for many years, redundancy meant that I had to seek work wherever I could and I eventually ended up relocating to East Anglia. However, when I was made redundant twice more I took the hint that perhaps the Financial Services industry and I weren't a match made in heaven and decided to pursue other things. One of those things was my love of writing which I'd had to take a prolonged sabbatical from due to pressing matters like the need to eat and pay the mortgage.
These things still needed doing of course, but events conspired to mean that I ended up with a lot more spare time on my hands than I intended. At first I just wrote short stories but as more and more of these won prizes or were published in anthologies or online, I decided it was time to try and write a novel, thereby fulfilling a lifelong ambition.
In June 2012 my debut novel, a heroic fantasy tale called Destiny of the sword, the first book in the Chronicles of Arkadia series, was published by Netherworld Publishing. Encouraged by my lovely publisher, books 2, 3 and 4 in the series were published in the following years.
In addition to the fantasy novels I have also written nearly 200 short stories, most of which are ghost or horror stories. Many of these have won prizes in writing competitions and a selection of the best ones has been published in an anthology called Tales of terror for a dark night, also available through Amazon.
When not writing I like to read historical fiction by great authors like Anthony Riches, James Wilde, Douglas Jackson and Bernard Cornwell, although I grew up reading every James Herbert book I could get my hands on, which is probably where my love of horror comes from. He was without doubt the biggest influence on my writing career. The way his books contained so many strands and the way he weaved them all together to produce a satisfying ending every time, was nothing short of genius. The writing world lost a true master when he passed away.
If you're interested in any of my short ghost/horror stories, then please feel free to browse the other books I've been published in which are listed on my author page. Most of these are themed anthologies containing one or more of my stories alongside those of many other talented writers.
