Widely considered as one of the most important sci-fi comic strips ever published, "Jeff Hawke" is a benchmark in intelligent, adult-oriented storytelling!Jeff Hawke's not your average space-hero; focused on reasoning, diplomacy and moral virtues instead of brute force, he is frequently forced to be the ambassador - rather than the saviour - of mankind! His universe is populated with alien species that meet humankind by accident or for commerce, but hardly ever for invasion.Patterson's subtle wit makes the strip's plots and characters as fascinating as they are amusing, and Jordan's highly expressive style fully captures the strangeness of the weird and wonderful aliens of Jeff's universe!

About the Author

Willie Patterson was a childhood friend of Sydney Jordan who began as a dialogue writer for Jeff Hawke but later took over plots and storylines, leading to what many consider the "golden age" of the strip. Sydney Jordan is an ex-RAF pilot and a graduate of the Aeronautical Technical School, who long sought to exploit his skills in drawing aeroplanes in a sci-fi comic. In 1955 he met Eric Souster and Jim Gilbert, and together they created Jeff Hawke.

It's a book! It's a hoot! It has pages!

Created for a newspaper, so it's a collection of black and white line-drawn stories broken up into the standard three pane cartoon strip format, one strip appearing in the newspaper each day. Despite that, the story flows ok. Proves the writers knew what they were doing.

Rather witty, not badly drawn, and better than most newspaper strips of the time. Not as well drawn as the Dan Dare / Eagle content, but more intelligent and more interesting to read. I loved Frank Hampton's work when I was younger, now I find it a bit lightweight. Not so with Jeff Hawke.

Check out King of Thieves from the same publisher, if you get the chance.

The work of Sydney Jordan and Willie Patterson cannot be described easily. It's early sci-fi but that doesn't matter really as it's about aliens and alien experiences and humans...um it's human stories involving humans and their quirks.....errr. it's aliens interacting with humans in such a human way you wonder which is the alien. Just READ IT! the stories are beautifully illustrated and the dialogue is so funny...and this is from a daily newspaper!!! Incredible

5.0 out of 5 stars For years i have been looking for the second Titan nook of Jeff Hawke
Reviewed in Italy on 1 June 2024
Unfortunately one of the best comic strip of all times, Jeff Hawke, can not be found any more. It is never reprinted, it is simply disappearing. For years i have been looking for this, the second Titan books, that contain sone of the best stories written by Willie Patterson, that are certainly the best of the entire stories. I bought it years ago from a bookstore in USA, i payed for it and was never delivered. Days ago i found this advertiment for a used copy, incredibly cheap, 12 euros including delivery. And it arrived yesterday, much earlier than anticipated. And in perfect conditions, practically new. I am very grateful.
