This is absolutely fab for developing your knowledge and practice of scales (major/Dorian/Mixilydian/natural minor especially - as other than pentatonics - these are all I'll ever use). Arpeggios are great too - helped me along good style. I'm no Jazz player, and that's not my interest (Blues/Rock and Pop/folk) but the techniques in this book are great for any style. Chords? Far too many - but that's Jazz for you. I only use the section Bs and the beginning and intermediate books. Advanced? maybe in another lifetime....

A very well crafted instruction book. As an accomplished guitarist / songwriter, I've been playing all my life, however, I really wanted to delve into the world of jazz guitar, so after a while of searching online and reading many, many reviews, I finally came upon this 3-books-in-1-volume and have to say it is excellent. It has a clear to follow method that starts from basics and progresses to a satisfactory level...
I have to recommend this book. It is perfect for tentative searchers, who not wishing to be frightened seek some jazz guitar enlightenment - its probably the best book you will find in this category and well worth the money and time spent studying it....

A perfect, fully contained introduction into Jazz concepts, chordal harmony and improvisation. Plenty of complex ideas distilled into clear, concise (and fun) lessons and exercises with different learning tracks depending on your objectives and interests. It is clear that a lot of time and effort has gone into not just the content, but also the structure and flow of this compendium. Something here for everyone looking to up-skill their jazz chops and general musical theory knowledge. Highly recommend.

I new this book would be above my level when I ordered it, but I want to build a playing knowledge with as much resource as possible, this book doesn't disappoint, it is full of all manor of chords, scale patterns and information all explained in a straight forward way, I would imagine I will never outgrow this book as it is so comprehensive, I look forward to improving my playing, music knowledge and trying to get to the end of the book if I can :D
One of, if not the best guitar technique/study books I have bought, no matter what level your at there is something for everyone who wants to progress and is willing to put the time in!

Sure, it's not for complete beginners.
I've been trying to do this stuff for about a year or so...I mean after playing rock/blues covers etc. and folky stuff for a few years.
It's also good for teachers...some of the stuff is obvious...eg. play slooooooowly until you can play it right...but Jody explains it all like a consummate master....I'd listen to him tell me how to brush my teeth lol.
The approach to major scale patterns I found interesting...different to what I've seen eg. in LCM/RGT courses and elsewhere.
No shortcuts, it takes work, but I reckon solid study of this stuff will guarantee dividends...if you're young, or have a young student, buy it and get on with it...and enjoy the journey...the subject is vast and limitless as Jody espouses!

This does not come with a CD as advertised - I can say that because I had to order it again and the second had no CD in it either. But it does have a link to a website which proves the needed audio material. I have not started the course yet but at first glance it certainly seems to be very slick and comprehensive.

This is very good and systematic book. I have been playing guitar for few years and I am self taught.
Whenever I heard Jazz guitar I always wanted to play. Tried different sites and purchased books but this book is really very good.
Approach to theory and technique development is fantastic
Yes it may not be very good for those who want start playing guitar but for that you can by any other book
