4.0 out of 5 stars Room for improvement 8 Mar. 2011
I waited months for these earphones to be released and having used them for about six weeks I now think it's time to write a fair review.

GOOD POINTS

- Love the look of them, particularly the fact that they've made the control section look like the edge of the iPhone 4.
- Tangle free wires are an absolute god send. Love the fact that the wires are flat and it makes the earphones look very expensive.
- The build quality feels very good.
- The controller is excellent, very responsive and easy to use and does so many commands.
- The microphone when making a call is very good, the person on the other end of the phone can hear me clearly and I do not need to raise my voice.
- For £50 a pair these are good value. I have only had them for about six weeks so not too sure on their lastability but I think they're going to last a good term.

NOT SO GOOD POINTS

- Having used various earphones I would rate the sound quality as slightly above average but not the best I've heard. For £20 you can buy the earphones 'Sound Magic PL11's' which have a far superior sound quality, though they do not have the added feature of a controller and tangle free wires.
- Even though these earphones come with various different size ear buds I still find them falling out of my ear easily, even a windy day can cause them to fall out.
- I occasionally find the part of earphone where the ear bud meets the wire can cause some discomfort in the ear as this is where it sits on the outer ear.
- Today I've noticed on the controller that a thin clear plastic coating on it has started to come away in each corner. No one would notice this unless they looked closely.

I decided to write this review after having used a pair of these on an iPhone for a good 3+ years.

Although I have not tried many different earphones of this category, I can say that I could find no words of reproach regarding the sound quality. On the contrary, the sound is nice and fat on the bass side, clean and crisp on the upper end, and everything you'd expect in between. You can really enjoy the sound when you play music on them, but they really do the job when you use them in a capacity of a hands-free set. The ear piece fits really nice and snug, so they shut out a lot of the background noise. The only thing is, I sometimes needed to bring the mic closer to my mouth for people to hear me well when I am speaking in a normal voice. Not always, though, and I'm not sure what made a difference. The mic was really good. I could use them with a lot of background noise and people could hear me well. I even vacuumed once, and the person on the other end could hear me well, and was surprised when I said I was vacuuming while talking to them.

They come with buds in 5 different sizes, so you can get them to fit quite closely. They are also quite comfortable, and you can wear them for a long time without them becoming a discomfort. I would often fall asleep in them, and the only nuisance would be waking up tangled up in the cord.

They are very well built. Everything feels quite robust, and you don't feel you need to pamper them all the time, the materials that Jays used seem quite good and durable. Somebody mentioned that the thin clear plastic coating would come off the back side of the controller, and I can confirm that. It's not a big deal though, because I quickly peeled off the whole back side, and you would not notice that it was ever there.

5.0 out of 5 stars JAYS Hands free kit 21 July 2013
By Craig
These Jays headsets are great quality and good value for money. Sound quality is fantastic and the build is great. I own 2 pairs as they are ideal for use with an IPhone 4S when travelling and keep one set in the car. Voice quality is great with very little background pick up. Would highly recommend.

really like them, especially that they are not tangling
but I just had to throw the second pair in a year away, due to either the speakers or the buttons not working. having said this, I am using them a lot and a not that careful, so maybe this is me.
I will try another brand next time just for comparison
great sound though

3.0 out of 5 stars Good sound, rubbish microphone 17 Jun. 2015

For playing music, these are great, but the microphone feature is significantly worse than the one that came as standard with the iPhone 4 five years ago. Unless you are sitting motionless in a quiet room, the person at the other end of the line won't be able to hear you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Above average earphones. 14 July 2011
Verified Purchase
I actually bought these for my android phone, i was simply looking for good sound quality and not much else. The other features are a bonus and although they do not all work some of them do depending on what application is open.

Good points:

- Tangle free earphones are brilliant, no more messing around when getting them out of your pocket.
- Although sound quality is not as good as previous earphones I have had i still found it to be above average.

Bad points:

- Now that i have used the earphones for a while i have seen that the coating on the buttons are starting to come off. This has made the buttons and the control unit itself shiny.
- The earbuds themselves are a little hard to get onto the earphones. It's not a big deal but thought i would mention it. I can still get them on it just takes a little effort. I haven't seen any signs of damage from this as of yet.

Overall i'd say these are a good pair of earphones. Although there are better out there such as a pair of Sony earphones i used to own for a similar price, these a are still very good and definitely above average. As a result I think it's worth the 4 stars I have given.
