I've always been suspicious of 'defected' compliatins as they seem a little label orientated of late. However these two Naked Recordings stalwarts come along and blow the place up.
Okay Defected still provides more tracks than any other label, but its only a handful and given that they do produce some blinding tracks its unlikely that either DJ felt obliged towards bias.
Okay boring stuff first, the mixing is a tight as.
Now to interesting bit - the tracks... well they're all good, not a limp album filler anywhere. The mixes (version) chosen for each song make this album perfect for the stereo or at a smaller house party. This compares with many albums that are based towards a dance floor and sound overwhelming in a more intimate surrounding. Both JayJ and Miguel Migs set the pace right. Standout tracks include the Dawn Penn covered 'No no no', 'Ethnicity Part 1' by Grant Nelson and '#1' by the curiously named Blaggers World.
If you want an album to welcome in the summer with then this is it...

This is the first segment of 3 in the excellent 'in the house' series by defected and is damn funky. If it's a mass of uplifting house that you require, then I don't think you'll make a better purchase than this. This has been the soundtrack to my summer. Stand out tracks for me include the immensly funky Dont You Love Me - Sir Piers Feat. Monique Bingham with it's playful and mint bassline and Rhythm Slaves 'I can feel it' , which is a brilliant electro based tune. This is smashing

It starts good; the 5 first tracks on CD1 are cool, not danceable though, but funky "chill-house", nice background music when driving car, chilling out or whatever. But after this, it becomes pretty boring; uninspiring, lifeless deep-house. This 2Cd is probably ok if you want some background, chilled house music, but it will most definitely NOT wanna make you dance. In other words, it's not a party CD. Except for some tracks, I found this CD pretty boring. Use your money on something else...

This CD is fantastic. Easily has the ability to get the party started but be warned - This CD is for house music connoisseurs only!

5.0 out of 5 stars That's a hot mix! 20 Aug. 2013

It's so hot it needs to be stored in a lead-lined water-cooled containment unit when not in use. Miguel Migs is a master of deep house, but Jay-J's contribution pushes the 2-CD compilation over the cliff. The beats don't stop until you drop from dancing through this mix of old favorites and new material. If you are a Migs fan, you may have already heard most of the tracks on Miguel's CD of this mix as they have been recycled from previous releases of Miguel's material. There's reggae influences in some of Miguel's tracks but doesn't veer too much into Rastafarian territory (unlike some of Migs' albums). The Jay-J CD is much fresher in material and mix approach. So funky and deep that if played in a graveyard, dead people will rise from the ground and start dancing.
1.0 out of 5 stars Not Nude Dimensions Sound 29 Nov. 2016

I've listened to DJ Miguel Migs' cds since his Nude Dimensions/Naked Music days. This cd is not horrible but definitely not the lush tropical house music I always look forward to hearing from him...

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have!!! 21 Sept. 2007

"Leave it to Defected to incite energy out of Migs and Jay-J. This is a movin' collection. The mixes are well selected, mixed, and effected - definitely a dancer's delight. Mig's set more closely mimicks his actual dancefloor gigs (good energy with just enough bump and OH! those double baselines). This opposed to the fluffier side of SF glamour house he's sometimes given/forced to sling at at chic DJ bars (the same feel as his last two major releases on Naked Music). Even the lapses in overt energy intended to cool out the party people are admirably thought-out. Incidentally, the production values are really (really cool pans, filtering, etc.), which makes for a good headphone vibe, as well. I don't know if this is where our Moulton/Naked brothers are headed, but I sure dig it. Bottomline: This is as good a representation of West Coast House (whatever that means, exactly) flavor as the world now knows."

4.0 out of 5 stars Hate to give these djs only 4 stars 27 Jan. 2005
By C. Stevens - Published on
Format: Audio CD
I have had this set since it was first released, and I still listen to both cds, however I can only give them both 4 stars. I do this because they leave me a little bit let down. I've been to see Miguel spin about 10 times, and have been in total bliss each time. These discs, while bringing out some excellent tracks ("diamond life" kicks, as do "City People" and "all I need"... wow), have an over-all flavor of a recent Cream Anthems mix combined with Hed Kandi. Both of which I love and play a lot, but I just wanted more originality from these guys. That being said, I would buy this set again in a heart beat, and think it's well worth the money. Good quality music, just not groundbreaking or niche-making.
