Not only does this book contain a huge variety of wonderful photos to inspire, from colour schemes to interior structure, it also contains a brief history of the traditional Japanese house and detailed instructions, with diagrams, of how to make some of the items yourself.
This was the first book on Japanese architecture I bought: if you only buy one book, buy this one! The chances are it won't be the last you buy and you'll get hooked, just like the rest of us!

According to the architect who is designing my house, an expert in Japanese design himself, this is one of the best books he has come across. It contains sufficient of every aspect of Japanese architecture and style in a concise form but with sufficient detail for it to be easy to follow.

Well the book does exactly what it says on the cover. It covers all aspects of Japanese homes from room to room, lighting flooring etc with some beautiful pictures. The book is intended to give advice on how you can recreate these in a modern home. it is a fascinating book in itself for anyone interested in Japan and its culture. it provides a wealth of stunning photos as well as diagrams and illustrations. Towards the back of the book are instructions for making a few Japanese items of furniture (lamps screens etc). It would have been nice to see more of these.
If you are looking for some oriental style then this book is a must.

I have started designing my bedroom and am a purist when it comes down to books, i try to steer clear of all this e-book stuff, i love a hard copy. So i decided to order this and (making japanese-style lamps and lanterns) in order to gain some perspective and a knowledgeable insite into how to make my room Japanese.

I had previously used various internet and game design sources, but this book really is fantastic, the explanation is great, it covers history, styles of design and also comes complete with floor plans which is excellent, hidden lighting and also much more. All in all it's superb for the person interested in Japanese design, someone who wants to create a room and also gives you plenty of creative idea's.

10/10, superb book.
