Janalya was a wonderful child, born to a line which once belonged to elementals. Her parents had their suspicions, she would find happiness standing outside in the roaring winds, hearing its silent whisper calling to her. Then came the day she was identified as being a child of the moon. She left her home to train, but as the years passed it became apparent she had been the last to be discovered. She is sent out, alone, in search of more elementals, but instead she finds Katsuo, and her destiny.
Janalya is a good teen/ young adult read. It is an easy, laid-back read with a story that flows nicely. The author’s style is well suited to the age group. It’s a journey of self-discovery and friendship and coming to understand the powers she, and others, were born with.

This was my first elemental read, but it certainly won't be the last. The author has a good way of enticing you further into the story and into the world of magic of the elements. A truly remarkable read that not only captures the struggles of Janalya as she tries to cope with her new powers at first, but also her development and her journey not only through her amazing life, but also through a wondrous world, where she encounters more than her imagination could hope for. I can guarantee two things by the time your finish this book, one, you will want to read more and two, you'll want a strong, beautiful panther at your side forever. I wish I could give it more than five stars, outstanding story, excellent descriptions and leaves you with a thirst for more, what else could you want. A book written for YA, but it is so much more than that and I feel all ages will enjoy this story.

This is a delightful book and an enjoyable read. Janalya is an air elemental who grows up, away from her parents, She is sent away to learn to harness her power. She meets Katsuo, a shape shifting panther and the way their relationship evolves is captured beautifully.

Older now, Janalya is sent to find other elementals and on the journey she learns more about the shape shifters. She feels drawn to Katsuo. After years of searching, she finds and starts mentoring two elementals. Katsuo joins them and they become family.

But will the other shape shifters and elementals accept this unconventional family? Will the long ago treaty between the elementals and shape shifters still hold force? Will there be war? Thrilling and well written scenes, this YA book is for young and old. A lovely book by author Marie Godley!

The central theme of this story is a journey to discover self-identity. Janalya is on a mission to learn her powers, and to search for more Air Elementals, who have become extremely rare. Along the way, she meets Katsuo and despite their backgrounds become very good friends.

“Janalya stood up and conjured a tornado, encasing the witch so she couldn’t escape. She held her high in the sky until the elves were back on their feet, then started to guide the tornado towards the ground.”

I thought the detailed descriptions were excellent. All of the characters were very likeable, but I felt that a little more depth and development to the dialogue would have been a nice added touch. In all, it was a very entertaining read, with many different colors and emotions. Specifically it’s a tale of friendship, magic, maturity, and non-conforming.

An interesting journey, this book was sweet and entertaining, but I admit that getting into it wasn't easy, the beginning is the weakest part - you definitely have to be persistent, because your interest will be picked a quarter of the way in.
It's a lively coming of age, finding yourself kinda YA read.
The shorter length and the number of supporting characters does mean that there are a few characters which weren't as well rounded as they might otherwise have been - we don't get who they might be, past a name - but this hasn't bothered me; all in all, I would recommend it to anyone who like their romance with a little bit of magic!
