I like this book against my better judgement really. I'll explain - I am very irritated by the constant use of the following words and expressions - 'rad', 'awesome', 'kick-ass', 'ballistic', 'bodacious', 'radonkulous' - I could go on! But, I have had to overcome my innate prejudice because the recipes are really very good. The first thing I like about the book is it's size. It is A5 size which means I can take it with me on camping trips and self-catering holidays more easily (and this is when I tend to do most of my barbecueing). The next thing I like is the fact that every recipe has a photo. I also like the introduction with useful tips about the principles of cooking on a BBQ. Every BBQ cook book I own has such a chapter but most of them are long and tedious. This intro I found short, to the point and useful. I particularly like the last chapter which has some lovely 'recipes' for rubs and sauces that can be prepared in advance and kept until your next BBQ. These are used in many of the recipes throughout the book. I like the idea of knocking up a couple of them and taking them with me when I go away. Oh, I should also say I like the recipes too! Having said all of that, please be aware that non of the recipes are by Jamie Oliver - his only involvement as far as I can see is to write the foreword. I knew that before I bought the book but you might be disappointed if that is what you were expecting. Anyway, I am off now to rustle up some bodacious burgers, awesomeatron lamb chops and ballistic BBQ chicken!!

I have to say this book looks fantastic each page has a recipe with a full page colour photo of the relevant dish on the opposite page so you can see exactly what the dish will look like, or should look like. It also gives you cooking techniques and BBQ tips this is, and I'm being sexist here but this is the perfect mans BBQ book my husband is just going to love it. Talking of my husband for his birthday last year he got a new barbecue, this turned out to be a never ending present since the rest of the year was spent buying all the additional extras he needed, meat thermometer, pizza stone, tandoori skewers the list goes on and on and unfortunately on.
This new barbecue also brought out a selection of new recipes found on the internet a few of these were good, most were ok and a couple were truly awful, awful as in uneatable and unforgettable I, being vegetarian was saved from this experience since the really bad ones were chicken. One in particular was for Chinese chicken wings the recipe asked for 3 tablespoons of Chinese 5 spice powder which my husband thought seemed a lot but since that's what it said, he realised later that it should have been 3 teaspoons.
In an effort to save not only money, from all the wasted food but also my family from having to try these dishes and groan every time the BBQ is mentioned I decided to find a book he could work his way through. This seemed an excellent choice, one thing I did notice is that most books, at least the ones I looked at didn't give a full breakdown of the recipes included which I would have liked so I've added one for you.

Quite simply the best BBQ Book this year. I own the Weber's Complete BBQ Guide and Ray Lampe's Slow Fire and both have been excellent but the 50 recipes in DJ BBQ's book are innovative, delicious and filled with soul. Covering everything from the simplest techniques to the more complex - this book offers insight into all forms of BBQ cooking ensuring that you can focus on the most important part of barbequing - enjoying good food, with good friends in (hopefully) good weather. I simply can't wait for the next edition!

Full of recipes which will change the way you BBQ.

I have always been a cook things fast and efficiently type of BBQ-er, but this book turns that into a slow and delicious proper BBQ.

Many of the recipes use DJ BBQ's (almost) trademark death star or indirect cooking methods to give things more time to develop flavours, and avoiding incinerating everything you put on the grill!

Great book to find a few recipes to show off to friends and families! Awesome book!

I've only tried a few of the recipes so far but it is a good book with good instructions and the food tastes great. I'm much happier now that I'm able to cook more than just burgers and sausages hehe.

It's ok. Nothing new or unique here, despite Jamie's over enthusiastic and annoying sidekick who is clearly punching above his weight when it comes to trying to be super cool and popular. Turn it down a couple of notches and he maybe almost bearable.
