James at fifteen, drove tractors bringing in harvests on farms. He then escaped along the Hummingbird Highway through Central America in a trusty Land-Rover, but became trapped by civil unrest in San Salvador for a few days.
He is qualified as a Telecom/Electronic Engineer, but prefers adventure to work; he has climbed mountains in Oman, slept in the jungles around Mount Kenya and has Scuba-dived around the reefs in the Caribbean as well as drinking Tequila in Mexico.
He writes short stories for magazines and various Internet sites. In June 2014, he published a collection of some of his original work in The Listener. This was followed by his Russell Holmes stories in The Case of the Mahjong Dragon.
Through his passion for writing he completed a degree, BA (Hon) Humanities with Creative Writing combined with German Language and Culture.
On his travels, he won a bronze medal in the world orienteering championship in Hong Kong, and has a collection of various trophies playing golf, more through luck than skill.
He regularly jogs, enjoys hill walking, swimming and encourages writing in his local community.
He has contributed charitable work to A Thousand Cranes – Scottish Writers for Japan, and is a member and supporter of Indie Authors World providing community resources for authors.
He is widowed. His daughters have inherited his adventure bug as they travel frequently for pleasure.
