…and published to coincide with the TV series of the same name (which I missed 😞), the INTRODUCTION explains the reasons behind the project:
🥐 ‘…ultimately what triggered this TV series and book was a phone call from Keith Floyd’s daughter, Poppy.
She wanted to know if I was interested in her dad’s old car, his much-loved Citroën 2CV…
…Some thirty years since 'Floyd on France' first screened, the chance to follow in his footsteps, and to return to places that have shaped my own life and career, was too good to resist. I hope this book will give you a small taste of what I learnt and the things I discovered on my French adventure, and that you’ll enjoy the trip as much as I did.
One thing’s for sure, it won’t be another thirty-odd years before I head back.’
ooOoo
The current LOOK INSIDE facility above handily gives a fair insight into the publication including the layout and the full INDEX that includes the titles of the ‘80 Classic French Recipes’.
Measuring around 20.75 cm x 25.5 cm x 2.25 cm, the thick hardboard cover opens to 192 numbered, matte finish pages split over main sections as per the CONTENTS page, namely:
~ SNACKS, SOUPS & STARTERS
~ FISH
~ MEAT
~ POULTRY & GAME
~ VEGETABLES & SALADS
~ DESSERTS & PASTRIES
…sandwiched between the aforementioned INTRODUCTION, at the front & a 4-page alphabetical INDEX at the back, all playing out with a short & sweet but typically sincere paragraph of ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS that ends with:
🍷 ‘…But most of all, thanks to Keith: rest in peace, mate ~ you’re a legend.’
The publication has spectacular on-location photography from Peter Cassidy, as well as those of most of the finished dishes, sometimes found over the page.
On the negative side, the opening to each recipe is in a pale teal blue shade, which may prove difficult to read in a poor light and there is a fair bit of ‘white space’ dotted around.
