One of the most relevant and important bands Britain has ever produced, aged just 19 Paul Weller found himself the spokesperson for a generation, my generation. His social awareness and political savvy belied his young age , at last we had something to hang on to and believe in. Classic pop tunes such as " tube station", " start" ," going underground "," Eton rifles " still relevant nearly 40 years after their original release. Let's not forget Bruce Foxton and Rick Buckler the heartbeat of this extraordinary band, I'm just glad I was around at the same time as they were to experience it all first hand.Great band, great songs buy it now and relive those heady days of the late 70's.

Great comp great set of hits and this cd was released before the horrible remastering noise wars started so if youre getting into the clash its a great album to get especially at one pence plus postage second hand on amazon

Nothing less that superb. A full set of all the UK singles released by The Jam during their lifetime.

There are too many highlights to list here but any one who considers themselves a fan of the music that echoed from the radios of the late 70s - early 80s who doesn't own this is deficient.

Like Cream and The Jimi Hendrix Experience, The Jam showed what power a trio could produce. After Punks fist flourishes Paul Weller turned increasingly to the influence of the Immediate records he loved so much and the band evolved, with later singles featuring keyboards (Town Called Malice), acoustic guitar (That's Entertainment), strings (Bitterest Pill) and brass (Absolute Beginners). By the time of Five O'clock Hero the sound had changed with Precious introducing a funky edge. The seeds of The Style Council and Wellers wilderness years had been sown. If he had taken Foxton and Butler with him....well who knows.

For now experience the blossoming of a song writer becoming increasingly confident and emerge fully grown from the Punk movement. Essential.

Great COMPILATION (not a Jam album please!) with all the hit singles which in itself is brilliant. But not necessarily the only great material from this band..you really need to listen to b-sides like 'Dreams of Children', 'Butterfly Collector' and then take in the albums 'All Mod Cons','Setting Sons' and 'Sound Effects' to get the full picture of the brilliance of this band..... damn it there's great stuff on the other albums too.
