Finntroll merge two of the most different musical styles around, black metal and 'humppa', a Finnish style of polka. This combination was discovered entirely by accident by two drunken musicians, but has paved the way for two albums, of which Jaktens Tid is the second. This record sounds like no other. Most songs combine the humppa keyboard riff with Arcturus or Children of Bodom-esque guitars and vocals that could have been sung by Alexi Laiho.
First track proper (after the atmospheric intro), Födosagan is a good of example of what is to come, with full on black metal during the verses, and a tempo change for the chorus when the humppa is introduced. This works surprisingly well, and the band have obviously realised this, because the same structure is used throughout the album. Apart from the keyboard-only instrumentals, every song follows the same formula. But that is not to say there is a lack of originality, indeed, every song on here sounds different. For me, the standout tracks are the aforementioned Födosagan, the title track, and Kitteldags. Jaktens Tid (the song) features some excellent rambling vocals that complement the normal ones perfectly, whilst Kitteldags sums up everything that is unique about this wonderful band in two short minutes.
To put it simply, this album rules. The lyrics are all in Swedish, so although I have no idea what they mean, a look at their website indicates that they are interested in "striking down the followers of the Christian plague". Even so, this is not reflected in the music, Jaktens Tid is one of the most fun albums I have ever heard. If you're looking for something new and original, check this out, I guarantee you will not be disappointed

This album blew me away, you would never think combining finnish polka style folk music and metal would work. But Jaktens Tid does it beautifully, the songs are really catchy and well written. I would reccomend this album to any metal fan, its a must and a unique album for your collection.

Mixing folk and Black Metal is not an easy business; bands like Borknagar and Primordial have not always managed it perfectly. However, this is a perfect blend of the two.The best thing is it does not compromise the speed or brutality, creating an incredible atmosphere. Welcome to the world of dark, northern fantasy.

Finntroll produce a sound like nothing else on earth; Humppa and Metal, never mind how it works it just does. The energy and uplifting-ness of their music is undisputable.
From start to 'Finnish' this album holds not a single track that is not touched by Trollish genius and therefore amazing. Beasts that stand out from the rest are: Skogens Hamnd, Kittledags and Varg Timmen.
The one thing that should prevent you from purchasing this album is saving up to see the band live!
